Its not often that a big event is in Canada, Much less an hour away from where I live. Just wanted to make this thread to inform the kommunity. I wish so much, that the Canadian scene would kick up and get as many events as the USA. I dont feel like spending $1000 to fly out to Valley Stream Monsters every week. A serious MK scene in Canada is needed. Perhaps a tournament circuit. Other than Casuals, events are rarely around.

With this once a year event. Toronto top tiers is bringing many skilled players from mcv3, ssf4AE, T6, MK9, BlazBlue and SC4.

I can say, the casuals event last night at A&C games was the best gamer experience I have ever had. Around many skilled people, exchanging conversation, matching skills. Amazing. The first time I have gone to anything. Diddn't lose a single set either. Extremely proud.

So I am here in Toronto with Vindrex, Fluri and Syns (callnames) and of coarse I am going by "Casselman".

The tournament, double elimination, starts around lunch I believe. Only top 4 MK will be streamed on Team Spooky's Channel. With names like Sabin, ChrisG, Dominion and more. This is going to be amazing. The finals are tomorrow. I am recording MUCH today though, focusing on MK.

Check back to this thread, or TYM or even my youtube channel linked in my sig, for the videos and updates. Gonna get all the video I can for this. Hopefully you guys will jump on board with me.

I talked with James From NSD, also looking at doing an article about the first time at a tournament. The experience, people, process and more. All in an effort to try and bring more people to the pro scene. So keep an eye out for that as well.

Wish me luck guys.

Great stuff! I won't be able to watch the live stream of the Top4, but I'll definitely look for recorded footage the day after.

Good luck Casselman! Rock that Sektor!

I'll report back my impressions after I see the recorded footage!

Oh and I suppose the game will be played on PS3, since it hasn't been patched yet?

Good luck man! It's crazy that you beat Sabin!! I think you'll have an advantage because maybe these guys don't have alot of Sektor experience.
EDIT: Where is the recorded footage? All I can see is SSFIV.

they didnt stream any MK yesterday sadly. The tourny was AMAZING getting to top 4. Sabin got knocked into losers by a Scorpion player. The first game Sabin won with Kenshi then got DOUBLE FLAWLESSED! then the third game he switched out and went to his main Reptile and lost that fight 2 rounds to nothing!

Was a great experience and I very happy and glad that Casselman talked me into going, was one of the best experiences of my life when it comes to Gaming.

and a side note for Casselman:

YOU PUT THAT EGOTISTICAL MANIAC Shady in his place!!!!! that was amazing to watch, LOLwow

Unfortunately. conditions with the crowd made it impossible to set up my tripod for the camera while the tourney was going on. we have a few casuals though. Will upload soon.

With all fairness. Sabin was subby when I faced him. I would have much rather faced reptile.

We made it down to a core group of REALLY skilled players. withing the last few matches of the day. there was NO shame in losing to any of those guys. "asdf" beat me, last round, last match, quarter health each. He was an amazing Ermac.

He lost to Sabin. So I can contest evenly with 2 guys that that fought for final 4, and I topped One 2-0?!?! Im going home happy.

One thing that I suppose doesn't matter but bothered me anyways. Is people getting "buys" in the bracket. Free wins.

Im also pretty sure I was paired with Winterwars right off the start because tim (bracket maker) seen me vs Sabin. And I know he wanted Winterwars out. so being good got me an insanely hard group to play against. While other people got buys (some got multiple) and clearly un-challenging fights.

I think there needs to be a more organized way of that. But essentially it doesn't matter. the best will win, regardless. Right?

Great tourney, I never dropped Sektor once. I was happy I diddn't resort to any changes. I went down swinging with my main. Got an insane amount of compliments for my Sek. and people covered in salt because they diddnt know any of his mixups and couldn't cope.

Im hooked. Any tournament in close vicinity, Im there. Great stuff Toronto.

Wow congrats Cass! I remember my first tournament I had loads of fun and I agree with a lot of what you said in your post, its a great feeling to mingle with other players and test your skill with them and have an all around fun time while doing it. Unfortunately my tourny was just small and local I wish I coulda competed with top players like Sabin. Glad to hear you had a great experience, cant wait to see some of the vids.

I saw the losers finals and grand finals over at teamSp00ky.

Sabin's Kenshi is pretty good, NeoRussel's Kitana didn't have a chance so he switched to Mileena and did better. Sabin's revenge in the final was funny with all those consecutive pit fatalities. They said on the stream (the commentators) that ArchMagus really has a good Scorpion, but I guess he was just too nervous in the grand finals?

Looking forward to seeing the recorded casuals!

I really wish we had the camera out and there was enough room to record some of the tournament footage cause i was talking to K-Frog during the arch/Sabin fight during the winners bracket when Sabin got double flawlessed.

That would have been a GREAT fight to get on camera. There was a lot of great matches we got to see before the final 4 on Sunday, too bad the turnout wasn't good enough to get a bit of stream time for the tournament on Saturday :(
(not saying the turnout was bad cause it was amazing)

thats awesome Casselman. i watched it on teamspooky but seeing all the MK hate on the chat upset me a bit... ppl still saying MK is dead and that its crap etc. thats why i prefer watching VSM because its made by MK players for MK players.
what was the atmosphere like and how were ppl responding to MK? are ppl still hype over it or has that hype sadly passed by for the usual SF4? sadly no one plays MK in my scene, thus i play Marvel since thats the only other game i can play and get competition (i play Tekken as well but ppl just stick to their capcom games).
i look forward in seeing ur name in future MK tourneys :)

Sup, bro. Never got the chance to congratulate you on your tournament performance. Sounds like you had a blast. I can only hope to have that kind of success at a Major one day.

I did have a question, though: Are you playing at Canada Cup? I realize that if you were you'd be playing right now, but maybe you'd be able to jump online after today's matches. Thought it was worth a shot. Good luck if you are, bro.

For those who want to watch, btw:

Canada Cup
Edit: Did some research, and it turns out I'm an idiot. That stream is for a Detroit Anime Convention (was wondering why the comepetition was so low-level).
I still think MK is being held in the Canada Cup, but I have no idea if they're streaming it or not.

MK was played at Canada Cup, but it wasn't on stream.

Justin Wong won (I suppose with Raiden). He beat ShujinkyDink in the finals (a Quan Chi player).
