Hey guys, it's another tournament event. It's not a major, but it's looking very interesting nonetheless.
Perfect Legend makes a tournament debut after winning Evo2011. Also in the house, the winner of the last major in 2011 (SoCal Regionals), Osu 16-bit and his Kombat Tomb Podcast colleague, Slips, probably the most known Scorpion player out there.
The tourney takes place at Northbrook, IL.
Here are the stream links:
LINK 1 -> Live NOW!
LINK 2 -> Live NOW!
It's scheduled to start at 12 p.m. CST (10 a.m. PST / 11 a.m. MST / 1 p.m. EST / 7 p.m. CET).
Top 8 is tomorrow, Jan. 8th. The entire tourney will be played TODAY! (Thanks to 16-bit for telling me about it on the stream.)
Enjoy!

It took a while.
Off topic, but I they should just fuse Strategy with Matchmaking. I know that's be like bridging together two haunted houses, but it would it still lead to more traffic.
Slips is rocking the shit out of Scorpion, but currently 16-bit has him pinned down pretty securely. EDIT: Tied 2&2 in losers final! EDIT 2: And Slips takes it!
Great comeback from Slips, mad props! Great match!
Btw, I wouldn't mind if they merged the forums.
Go Slips, good luck for the Grand Finals!
EDIT: It's over.
#1 Perfect Legend (Raiden)
#2 Slips (Scorpion)
#3 16-bit (Kitana)
$4 Dizzy (Johnny Cage)
Very entertaining matches. I especially enjoyed 16-bit & Slips trying to take down The Champ. They did alright, fought well, but Perfect Legend was just too good today. Slips vs 16-bit was a great match as well, great comeback by Slips. Dizzy's Cage was fun to watch as well, I like how he uses the breakers to position the opponent into the corner.
Great fun!

That was heartbreaking. Huge props to Slips. Huge props to 16 Bit as well. When 16-Bit gets back to the forum, I hope he talks a bit about the Kitana/Scorpion Match-up.
For some reason I thought Legend was using Cyrax now. I'll always respect the guy, but Raiden isn't going to help his reputation of being a whiner who uses high-tier characters. Glad Raiden is getting success, though. I really want PR Balrog's Raiden to come out of retirement, but that's probably a bit hopeless at this point.
Lot of references of Floe. If Floe back? If not, just lie to me and say he is.
I guess that leaves me wondering why it took this long for someone to rise up the ranks with Scorpion. It always seemed like he had a lot of options, but no one was playing the guy. Also, the commentators mentioned a two-frame window for one of the combos. Anyone know which combo they're referring to? I didn't think MK2012 had anything that execution-heavy.

I'm also glad that we finally got to see Raiden and Scorpion at later stages of the tournament and played so amazingly well.
I read one of Floe's messages in the chat room saying he isn't going back to MK due to too many games being out there. J.O.P. however might be coming back.
As for the two-frame window combo, it was one of the Raiden's combos. I think it could be a string he does after the vicinity blast (d, b+2) after having already done the electric grab (d, f+2) earlier in the same combo. I'm not sure.
Btw, I'm off to bed now. It's 2.30am here.
'Nite!

That's the truth. I feel Slips was doing the more interesting setups, but Perfect Legend is so damn cool headed. Nothing phased that guy.

Chucks. I'm a huge Floe fan. SF4 was the very first game I ever tried to play competitively, so I'm always going to have one foot in that community. Hope Evo inspires him to go back to the MK training room.

It's probably something I wouldn't put energy into. Execution is not my forte. Kinda why I feel comfortable with Smoke. Basic dash combos can get you really far with that guy.
Sleep well, friend.
JOP MIGHT BE MAKING A COMEBACK? FUCK YEAH!!!
I fucking love that guys Cage. God damn, it was amazing.
AND I CANT BELIEVE I FUCKING MISSED THIS SHIT. SERIOUSLY? I come on and it says live now its off lol fml. Oh well, thanks for the info though. It's nice to see PL make a comeback and show all the haters he can still do some damage.

* If the link still doesn't work copy & paste the following link into your web browser's address bar: http://www.twitch.tv/medina4life/b/304834105 (It only seems to work if you copy & paste it, not if you right click on it and select the option to open the link.) SO F***ED UP.
I also posted these and the archives from 2 other tournaments in the Strat Zone.

Sorry about that, not sure what went wrong. I updated it and it works for me now.
EDIT: I'm not sure what the hell is going on, but all my latest (today's) Twitch.tv links sometimes load on the 1st try and sometimes it fails and I get the "The connection was reset" message.
It was awesome that PL came back. I play him online regularly, so I've known he was still great and that he was playing Raiden. Also make no mistake, his Kung Lao is still excellent. He has these ridiculous teleport setups that make punishing the TP hard.
My biggest problem against PL was letting him jump in and cross me up so badly. I don't think I ever AAed a jump in and I lost every air to air. One time I finally NJPed his teleport into jump and dropped the combo :( I have no excuse other than playing that dude is hella overwhelming.
Kitana vs. Scorpion is in her favor. She really controls the matchup. It's not the fan zoning, he can deal with that especially when he has meter. It's the footsies. He is one of the many characters without a good answer for d+1. He has to take ridiculous risks like jump ins to get in and get going. I am happy with that set even though I lost. I think I played well, he was just able to make the comeback because he understands the matchup so well and I guessed wrong every time when caught in the vortex. IMO my only major tactical error was using d+1~cutter so often. I got away with it at first then got complacent and paid for it.

I remember that one, the air-fan whiffed after the NJP.
I'm not sure, but I think the vertical hitbox on Raiden's JP could be similar to Scorpion's, it's one of those better ones.
I played a Raiden player yesterday, and his JP cross-ups would beat my Kitana's d1. I usually get away with d1s on cross-ups.
