OK, I thought I had it figured out, but how do the wake up mechanics work. Ive played a couple people, that I could not wake up against and its really lame because they just hit midhit combo strings over and over. I can not get up. Whats the deal?

Please, just stop with the thread making. No offense but I'm tired of seeing you, especially as an OP.

i've actually had that problem a couple of times. it's just an input thing though, as long as you do the move whilst your on the floor, it should work. it's kinda annoying if you get it wrong though, you just get up without blocking and get beaten up again >.<

After you've been knocked down, you have the option, before you get back up to do a attack. All wake-up attacks are special moves. Keep in mind that not all of a characters special moves can be wake up attacks.

Take Sub-Zero for example. His wake up moves are ice clone and ground slide. I am sure that you can't freeze for a wake-up attack. Anways it works when you get knocked down, before you get back up, do a special move. Try in practice mode. Let the AI knock you down, and do a special movie. It is hard to explain, but you will get used on when to do it. Also note that enhanced special moves work as wake-up attacks.

No offense, but ARGO. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Now to the rest of you that are actually helpful. Im pretty sure that Im doing it right. It works most of the time. Are there moves the opponent can do that counter wake up attack? if so it it possible to wake up into a block, or to roll front or back?

Press any button immediately on impact to oki or roll back.

Hold down to remain down longer.

Initiate specials on impact or after oki/roll back

certain characters have EX wake ups that when done correctly you will flash purple and have extra damage.

Oh yeah, All this goes out the window online due to latency and missed inputs.

Enjoy.

I guess if you wanted you can counter if your fast enough. Also, I think if you did a enhanced wake-up attack you would get "armor", you will take damage, but it would be reduced, just like incoming X-ray attacks. Wake up attack is an attack, so I don't think you can block starting with one. Also keep in mind you can stay down when knocked down for a few seconds, by holding down on the d-pad.

I did not know some were unblockable, like whose for example? What does the EX stand for?

Thought they were unblockable. ( After testing ) Just more damaging, My bad

I just use oki's and regular wake up specials, Usually use all my meter for Tag assists or entries.

Fixed my post, Sorry bout that. But you will still see the flash if done within the correct frames.

You have three options when you get knocked down
tech roll - anything other than down the second you hit the floor.
stay down - hold down
get up - don't tech roll / stay down

during a normal get up (meaning, did not stay down and did not tech roll) you can input any special move input so that it comes out immediately when your character is done rising.

Every character has 1 or two moves that when done in this way get special wake up properties. During wake up these moves get additional invincibility on start up, and gain you a little bit of meter just for doing them. You do not get any wake up bonuses if you stay down or tech roll. It only works if you let your character get up completely naturally.

It does not matter if you use the EX (add block) version of the move or the regular one. If its a wake up move, you get the bonuses, if its not the move still comes out but there's nothing "special" about it, meaning it will probably get stuffed.

Bear in mind, most wake ups are not get out of jail free cards. A lot of times the best course of action is to stay down a little longer, because unless they use a really low attack or something like ground pound a spammer will walk right over you and you can get up behind them quickly.
