2016 Mortal Kombat X Preview Coming at The Game Awards 2015

The wait is almost over! Mortal Kombat X will reveal who's next in downloadable content in mere days! It's part of an exclusive reveal to be shown during The Game Awards 2015 live from Los Angeles!

MKX Creative Director Ed Boon revealed he'll be live in attendance for the exclusive reveal in a fresh tweet. It comes more than three months since the first teaser for new DLC, announced for a 2016 release.

Still no official word on what to expect, but Boon has already given various character skins the check of approval, and all signs point to The Pit as a returning DLC arena [read more].

Update: The Game Awards released the above trailer hyping the Mortal Kombat X announcement. It contains no new footage or indication of who or what will be revealed.

Also announced for live attendance are: Shaquille O'Neal and Kiefer Sutherland -- the latter misreported by IGN to have completed worked on Mortal Kombat in 2014 [full story]. It's the first time we're aware of Sutherland and Boon being in the same place since the snafu. If they decide to throwdown, there'll be live music by CHVRCHES and Deadmau5.

The Game Awards take place this Thursday, December 3rd streaming live at 9:00PM Eastern Time (6:00PM Pacific Time)! Mortal Kombat X is nominated for Best Fighting Game, going up against: Guilty Gear Xrd -Sign-, Rise of Incarnates & Rising Thunder. It was overlooked in the "Best Family Game" category.

Heroes return to status quo in Mortal Kombat X comic book epilogues

November marks the publication of DC Comics' final issue of the Mortal Kombat X first volume. "Blood Island" wraps up plotlines from throughout the twelve issue maxi-series, restoring the heroes to their natural state in a series of epilogues. Comic Book Resources recently featured a full preview.

The preview hunkers down on the fates of legendary kombatants Jax, Sonya Blade, Johnny Cage & Scorpion as they oversee the next generation: Cassie Cage, Jacqui Briggs & Takahashi Takeda. Die hard fans will also note the appearance of ill fated Netherrealm oni: Moloch!

The Jae Lee/June Chung collaborative cover is especially noteworthy for featuring the severed head of cybernetic Lin Kuei warrior Sektor! Sektor appeared in a brief cameo during the video game story mode. Sub-Zero battles his former clansmen in the issue.

With the Blood God destroyed and Havik neutralized, the champions of Earthrealm and Outworld attempt to return to their normal lives…and new forces begin to conspire against them. Meanwhile, Sub-Zero takes on the entire Cyber Lin-Kuei clan by himself and attempts to eradicate the cyber threat once and for all!

Creative Director Reveals 2016 DLC for MKX Newcomers

NetherRealm Studios Creative Director Ed Boon recently returned en force to micro-blogger Twitter, whipping up a fan frenzy of interest and speculation ahead of the new year!

Most tweets have revolved around the usual general fandom and much lamented abandoned HD remakes [read more] - but amongst the miscellanea: the first definitive hints toward new content in 2016!

Mortal Kombat X newcomers Takeda, D'Vorah, Erron Black and Kung Jin have all been namedropped in nods to new costume skins coming soon to downloadable content!

Officially announced in September [full story]; new Mortal Kombat X DLC is scheduled for an undetermined date in 2016. New playable characters will be the headlining feature [teaser], but purchasable updates will also include fresh character skins and a new arena to stage fights in!

Mark the latter two characters confirmed for new skins, with just a hint of ambiguity around Takeda & D'Vorah. The Pit remains the safe bet based on previous hints, despite graphic assets emerging as part of a Halloween seasonal Premier Tower.

Mortal Kombat Conquest Returns to TV on The El Rey Network!

Thursdays belong to Mortal Kombat: Conquest on the El Rey Network! The cult 1998 series from Mortal Kombat movie producers Threshold Entertainment has returned to screens, running from midday on the home for kickass film and television!

The re-run will be the perfect opportunity for fans new and old to catch-up on a once forgotten piece of Kombat fandom. Spinning out of the Mortal Kombat movie universe: the series takes place in ancient Zhuzin, during the reign of The Great Kung Lao (Paolo Montalban) as Mortal Kombat Champion!

Under the guidance of Raiden (Jeff MeeK), Kung Lao joins forces with fellow mortals Siro (Daniel Bernhardt) and Taja (Kristanna Loken) to defend the Earthrealm against the evil forces of Shao Kahn and disgraced sorcerer Shang Tsung (Bruce Locke). Along the way they encounter incarnations of classic characters, such as: Sub-Zero, Scorpion, Quan Chi, Reptile, Rain, Mileena, Noob Saibot, plus brand new threats from within and other realms!

The El Rey Network is showing four hours of Conquest each Saturday.
