welcome to MKO

um as for sub and scorp. here is a brief BRIEF history..

check out the MK warehouse for more info..

(go to the network tab then select MKwarehouse)

Anyways skipping to mk1-2.
Scorpian was under the impression subzero killed his family.

scorpian was killed in d past by sub.. but freak hes still alive..

anyways scorpian kills the original sub-zero who becomes noob saibot .

Sub zeros younger brother takes on the role of subzero and vows revenge .

Scorpion eventually finds out quan chi killed his family, and vows to protect the current subzero.

scoripain is going after quanchi, subzero is doing his own shit.

its real brief...
id copy what the warehouse says but its filled with heeps of good stuff, so take a look for yourself :D

Scorpion and Sub-Zero are both cool. They both have engaging stories, and they also have the distinction of being the only two characters who will always be in the MK games, Scorpion because he is the designer, Ed Boon's favourite, and Sub-Zero because he is a massive fan favourite.

Their story is kinda complicated but there are two Sub-Zeros, who are siblings. The older Sub-Zero was given a mission by a sorcerer named Quan Chi to retrieve a map that could tell him where to find an amulet. On the way, he met Scorpion who had also been hired by Quan Chi. After a battle, Sub-Zero won, and ripped off his opponent's head.

Scorpion went to the Netherealm, or Hell, and was given the chance to return so he could exact revenge for his death. In the mean time, Quan Chi had killed Scorpion's family and clan as a favour to Sub-Zero's clan, the Lin Kuei. The rest of that story is unimportant to the tale between Subby and Scorpy.

So when the first MK game came around about two years later, Sub-Zero and Scorpion were both invited to compete in the tournament. At some point during that whole ordeal, probably after the final battle, since they are both fighting in it in Shaolin Monks, Scorpion killed Sub-Zero in revenge.

In MK2, the Sub-Zero is the younger brother of the original that killed Scorpion. There is some contention here about whether Scorpion knew that this Sub-Zero was not the one who killed him or not, but he found out at some point and vowed to protect the younger Sub-Zero rather than kill him too. Personally, I think Scorpion returned from Hell because Noob Saibot appeared, and he has now been confirmed as the original Sub-Zero.

In MK3, Scorpion was brought out of Hell by Shao Kahn and eventually got sent back there when he attacked the Emperor himself. Whether he met Sub-Zero or not is unknown, but that guy was being chased by the Lin Kuei because he didn't want to get turned into a cyborg like his clan mates. He managed to escape them and live on to MK4.

In MK4, the fallen Elder God Shinnok rose from the Netherealm with Quan Chi and a host of other dead guys from former games, like Baraka, Mileena, Reptile and Scorpion. Quan Chi convinced Scorpion that the Lin Kuei had killed his family, even though he had himself, and set him on Sub-Zero so he wouldn't be a threat to Shinnok invasion. However, when Scorpion had practically killed Sub-Zero, Quan Chi appeared and tried to send him back to the Netherealm after telling him the truth. Scorpion grabbed Quan Chi and they were both teleported to Hell, leaving Sub-Zero to pick up the pieces of himself and leave.

Their paths split there. Scorpion kicks Quan Chi's arse all over Hell before losing him in Outworld, finds him again outside Shang Tsung's palace but dies again, returns later on and is captured by the Oni Moloch and Drahmin who helped Quan Chi get away from him the first time, and is killed yet again. Scorpion gets made the Champion of the Elder Gods and helps Shujinko defeat the Dragon King in MK Deception.

Sub-Zero destroys the old Lin Kuei by defeating Sektor, one of the robots sent to kill him in MK3, and reforms it. He gets a new pupil named Frost who follows him to Outworld in Deadly Alliance, to help him, but promptly spineshanks him and gets herself killed by her own freezing powers. He buries her and finds some new armour, which belonged to his distant ancestors. He uses this to defeat a crud-load of nomad-demons like Baraka, and then teams up with Kenshi to find the others from Earthrealm. He finds Shujinko and helps him defeat the Dragon King in MK Deception.

You need to play the games really, because I've kind of rushed. You don't need to play the first four MK games so much as you need to play MK Deadly Alliance and MK Deception.

Good luck with that, hope I helped you out.

Welcome to MKO.

Seeing as others have already answered your question about their stories, I will give you my personal opinion on both characters and the reason why I find one better then the other.

Im not a fan of ninjas, in fact, I think they are all overrated and most serve no purpose in Mk unless drastic changes are made to their character and story. Of those 2 ninjas, I find Sub-Zero to be the superior one. He has managed to get away from the boring stale path that Scorpion (sadly) is still wondering lost.

Sub-Zero has evolved, suffering ups and downs in the process. I really disliked him in Mk2, he wasn’t the original and still shared everything...exact name, cloth, powers, and even the story was similar, until his ending of course when we discover he is in fact the younger brother.

He was 100% changed in Mk3, and it was for the best. The new outfit, the story, his involvement with the cyber assassins, his new powers, etc. Sub-Zero was superb in this game, and the best part of it was that there was no Scorpion to ruin his storyline.

Then Mk4 screwed him up involving him with the ninja again, Im not saying its bad to involve Scorpion in his story, but it gets bad when it seems like that’s the only important thing about this character. I wasn’t interested in him anymore....until MKDA.

Wow, MKDA not only changed his look once again, but it also gave him new twists and a new storyline, IMO, deep. It was great, and he was once again a free-Scorpion character. I was very happy, Im very interesting to know more about Sektor.

MKD was a surprise, while I hate the alternate outfit, the primary one makes up for that atrocity. And his story was really good, very interesting. I think it has potential, Im very interested to know more about the medallion and the amour now.

That’s why I think Sub-Zero is better, Scorpion had an awesome story in Mk1...but that was it. He has been dying and returning/escaping hell over and over. MKD finally changed his character with a new purpose and role, but quite frankly, his role was simply a lame attempt to improve his already stale and boring storyline. I really hope his ending/story aren’t exactly cannon. That would suck. Just my opinion though.

Scorpion is a great character! He obviously has potential, but they just need to do with him what they did to Reptile and Sub-Zero a long time ago. Make him interesting.

Actually, we can rant on and on about the merits of each character, but at the end of the day, the fact of the matter is, and this is the absolute truth, Sub-Zero is cooler. I mean, he DOES have ice powers after all. grin Ha Ha At Me.

I like both of them but I got to hand it to Subby this time. Sorry Scorp...
Storyline:
The older Sub Zero and Hanzo Hasashi (codename: Scorpion) were unawarely set up by Quan Chi to receive the Map of Elements from the Shaolin Temples. Scorp came from the Shirai Ryu clan and Sub Zero from the Lin Kuei. They met as they are about to receive the map. The two ninjas fought with Sub Zero triumphing. Scorpion begged Subby to spare him but the Lin Kuei ninja showed no mercy by ripping Scorpion's head with his spine dangling thus ending Hanzo's life. In the bowels of hell, Scorpion was revived in hell and met Quan Chi who informed him of his family and clan's brutal deaths. Enraged, Scorpion decides to take revenge on Sub Zero. Quan Chi offers him the greatest price for revenge- his memories of his happier former life with his family. Scorpion accepts and is off to revenge.
In the first MK1 tournament, the undead spectre meets the Lin Kuei ninja again. Sometime later on when Shang Tsung subcumbed to Liu Kang, the ninjas fought again. Scorpion triumphs by burning Sub Zero into ashes with his hellspawn powers by removing his mask. Not only he becomes Noob Saibot (see MKD), his legacy is passed down upon his younger brother...
In MK2, Scorpion is furious that the Sub Zero he thought was dead was still alive. After a few fights, he realizes that was not the same Sub Zero who killed him. Scorpion vows to protect his younger brother for killing Sub Zero. In the events of UMK3, Scorpion is recruited by Shao Kahn against the Earthrealm warriors only to see that Sub Zero is part of them. He turns on Kahn only to return to hell. In MK4, Quan Chi offers Scorpion life if he helped Shinnok. This offer is what Scorpion could not reject and has no choice. As he encounters Sub Zero, they fought after Scorpion is deceived into the thought of the Lin Kuei responsible of his loved ones' deaths. Sub Zero exclaims that the clan wasn't responsible. Quan Chi appears and reveals the truth that he was in fact the murderer. Furious, Scorpion is transported to the Netherrealm bringing Quan Chi with him. (Hightlight for MKDA/MKD storyline)
Spoilers: (Highlight to reveal)
In MKDA, Quan Chi escapes and causes Scorpion to look for him. The alliance between Sub Zero (the younger) and Scorp has broken. Sub Zero rebuilds the Lin Kuei with his student Frost companying him to battle against the Deadly Alliance with the Earthrealm warriors. In their endings (See MK Warehouse) Scorpion defeats the Oni and is sent to the soulnado but eventually escapes while Sub Zero has to face the betrayal of Frost. In MKD, Scorpion is chosen as the Elder Gods' warrior to defeat the Dragon King while Sub Zero donnes his "Shredder" armor and becomes allies with Kenshi defeating Tarkatans. Sub and Kenshi also face their enemy Hotaru who is hunting them. Did Scorp kill Onaga? I think Shunjiko did though.
