When I was little, I remember being at the arcade and seeing a guy do a Sub-Zero Fatality that made the screen turn black. What's the deal with that! And does any know how to do it?

That was in UMK3. Classic Sub's implied head rip.

Which just adds on to the fact that Midway is made up of a bunch of lazy fuck-offs.
The "real" reason why they left the screens black, and this was said by Boon in an interview somewhere in the past is that he wanted the fans to imagine what would happen. He had always made the fans choose what they thought were cool, and he never gave any that were left to where the fans could think for themselves and make up their own ending for these two Fatalities. Remember Raiden's famous word from the Demo of MK3. It said something along the lines of "Imagination Is More Powerful" than something. Anyway, with these two Fatalities he left it up to the fans to decide with imagination. The reason some of the other fighters don't have other Fatalities is also due to memory issues. Look at Ermac, and Smoke having the same finisher. That is the reason why those two were left black, and also why some of the game was unfinished.
That was just an excuse Ed Boon used, if he would right out said it was because they didn't want to add animations he would probably gotten fired or fined by Midway. The truth is, it was because of animation reasons. They would have had to do spine rip animations for all the characters. They were just too lazy to make animations for it.

Ed Boon is a liar. They didn't feel like doing an animation for it almost doesn't seem reasonable either, because of the effort they went through for Ermac's friendship. It doesn't make any sense. In about 10 minutes, I came up with this:
Also, the reason they didnt' do anything for Scorpion's I believe is because it would have slowed the game down, I have a feeling that the Scorpion's just disappear, although if you do it on the Robots, you can see something black overlapping, and there's obviously nothing even doing anything, if all those Scorpions were doing attacks at once the machine would probably blow up.

All they needed to do for the head rip was the spine, nothing else, thats all that was used in MK1. They just used his Uppercut frames then for the head grab motion and his victory stance with the head hovering over his hand. Thats all they had to do for this, and then add the spine, jus the spine, nothing else, and they couldn't.
For Scorpion, I think the the reason it fades is because if they actually had everyone run in, what would they do? They'd either all be close enough to attack, in which case they'd all be overlapping and you'd only see 1 or 2 anyway, or some would attack close and some from far away, but that would look pretty dumb too.
The Scorpion fade out is slightly more acceptable in my eyes because of the audio of it, especially when you do it to Liu Kang. Occasionally you get to hear all the sound effects and Liu Kang screaming, and the scream is cut off from one last, delayed spear hit noise, and that is hilarious.

Guys, I believe that Classic Sub-Zero Fatality in UMK3 was him just poking your eyes out instead of ripping your head off, because If you use something like Gens and play the rom, and turn up the brightness up real high(but not to high), you can see what happens after the screen goes black.

You know, when I was younger I thought that too, I thought that Sub Zero poked the guy's eyes out and the screen went black because it's like the guy can't see anymore. Oddly enough I started doubting that later on. But hell, I'm not complaining, at least they gave us an expansion on MK3.
