So while I am an avid fan (collector as well. I own the MK 1, 2, and 3 promo posters) of mortal kombat, I recently found myself picking up MK 1 again to play. I chose liu kang and after maybe an hour and a half (and getting beaten down pretty well by the endurance matches and goro I finally made my way to Shang tsung and once again claimed my title as supreme MK champion. So like any other gamer would do, I popped in MK 2 because I had heard sooo much about it. I hear it's the best in the series, it's a lot of peoples favorite, and etc etc. I chose medium difficulty like in 1 and chose liu Kang and holy balls! I got the crap kicked out of me just in the first few rounds! My reaction was pretty well received in astonishment of difficulty. I made it pretty far only to be thrown repeatedly to my death, and getting a permanent game over. So here's a few questions I have. What are the absolute best moves for liu kang in MK 2? Why the heck is this game so hard? Is it beatable without using save states like I've seen so many others use? And should I tone it down to easy or very easy? I would HATE to do that since I don't wanna feel like I was handed my victory but I guess that's better than being handed my ass. XD

Mortal Kombat (2011) is definitely better a game than Mortal Kombat II is, albeit it has a lot to do with the fact that MK9 is, let's face it, more modern. Does it necessarily have to be Liu Kang? Pick Baraka and sharpen your blades for chopping. And yes, you can finish it with no cheating. I did.

You have to learn the patterns of the AI in MK2 to beat it. The patterns are different depending on what character you are and if you are player 1 or player 2. These have been known and used since the 1990s in the arcade. The noob moves are to crouch down and do a backflip when they come in close if you are one of the ninjas. The AI will execute a delayed front flip toward you, giving you a free chance at juggling heaven.

Just spam Bike kick then fly kick repeatedly. Its not considered cheating.

I'm not a fan of Liu Kang, but, I liked him in MK 2 only. Apart from that, he sucks in all other games. He could of been better.

Any one ever notice the floor moves when you do a fatality with Reptile in the Armory?. I always wondered if there was some secret that came from that, but I never heard anything.

Yeah it's just a glitch or something.

As for OP

The AI in MK2 (Arcade version) can be challenging because it practically reads your inputs and reacts accordingly making it difficult to beat, You have to trick the AI. At the start of the match remained crouched because most characters will launch a special of some sort which can be easily avoided if ducked also leaving others open for a free attack. Like Johnny Cage when he does his Shadow Kick, Kung Lao when he does his teleport and Mileena's drop kick. After that the easiest way is to walk back or jump back (They will usually walk or jump towards you) then jump kick, then start walking or flipping back again, then jump kick or jump punch them. Throw in some specials too, sweep spam works for a while and cornering them works as well. Idk its like a trial and error sort of thing, you will get the hang of it and beat the game in no time if you keep trying and realize how the AI works.

I would have to agree that the AI in MK2 is very hard. It's like the CPU "knows" what you're doing even before you do it. I'm not an expert Liu Kang player. I'm more of a subzero fan - iceball, uppercut! pretty much seals the deal against the computer.
