A plothole, or am I missing something here?

In Mortal Kombat 3, Shao Kahn took the souls of every human being on earth except those of the chosen ones.
Well in MKDA, it's revealed that Shao Kahn was only defeated and forced to return to OutWorld, so all is well on Earth.
...or is it?
I mean, if Kahn had the souls of everyone on Earth, wouldn't he have to die in order to release all the souls, or something?
I doupt that whoever defeated Shao Kahn forced him to release all those souls. And although he had been ''weakened'', he didn't look like he had just lost millions of souls in the MKDA intro.
So in MKDA, did they just ignore the part where everyone on Earth lost their souls to Kahn, or is there a logical explanation to this?

I think that the only logical explanation here is that he had to release the human souls in order to espace to Outworld, or he was so weak after his defeat that the souls just escaped, or....
...there is indeed a plot hole., but we, hardcore MK fans, cannot admit that and must find the logical explanation

I read a fan fic that explained it very, very well. Basically the author's theory was this: when a sorceror like Shang Tsung or Shao Kahn, is defeated, or weakend, their power/control is broken. Sort of like in the MK1 Movie when Tsung lost his hold over the souls he had stolen at the end.

to be honest i think your just being overly analitical of the storyline-im sure this wouldnt have been thought of when the game was planned out. its like saying 'hey wait a minute-how could reptiles tounge fit into his body if its big enough to shoot out all that way and theive somebody head?!'.
...having said that-we are the hardcore fans, so maybe it isn't so stupid to be posing such questions-afterall this is the right place for what if's amd whatnot huh?

I agree krackerjack, but what I mean is that it seems that we put more effort on linking the story properly than the MK team themselves.

I doubt that. They just leave things untold to keep you doing what you are doing right now... Wondering.
When you don't know what's going on 100% it adds a small amount of frustration, causes you to use your own imagination, and will most likely impress you when the truth/story is told.

Ive always just seen the invasion like another type of Mortal Kombat tournament, though not a true tournament it is still about conquering and defending the Earth realm and in that respect that is what Mortal Kombat is for, a chance to conquer and defend. Now since Shao Kahn was defeated he failed to win Earth and Im just guessing that a rule to Mortal Kombat is that if a conqueror fails then the Earth must return to its original state. Nothing to back it up but it makes sense to me.

Well think about it, you gotta have alot of strength and power to contain alot of souls. When Shao Kahn was defeated, he may have lost some power and became too weak to contain all of those souls, so they were set free.

There's quite a few plotholes. Like in one Konquest, it tells us that Jax, not the Lin Kuei, found Cyrax in the desert and reprogrammed him, which totally negates Cyrax and Sektor's MK Gold storylines.

Do not, and I repeat, do not take the movie and the shows to be relevant to the real story. The just mess everything up.

Sauron would be correct.

Ohhhhhhhhhhh my bad. But what I said applies to everyone who thinks the movie and the show actually mean something to the storyline.

That's not a plothole, they just changed the story.
