I think many think the scar was put there by the Lin Kuei, because his MK3 storyline says he has been 'marked for death'. I think the term 'mark' was sort of taken out of context. Marking someone for death isn't the same as placing an actual 'mark' on someone's face. The appearance of the scar coincided with his new storyline, so people assumed that the 'mark of death' was an actual mark. I took it as the Lin Kuei just had his name 'marked' down, and were hunting him, not actually placing a physical mark on his face.

i just dont see how the lin kuei could make a scar on him as a death mark, because if they had him long enough to create a scar, trust me they'd kill him, or he would have ran so fast it would not even be funny (actually, yes it would lol) but i just dont see how its a mark for death, if it is, dont need to flame, but i just dont see how it can be

Anyway, I think the scar on Subby's face was probably caused in the middle of his escape from the Lin Kuei.
