Alternate/easier Windows XP patch for Mortal Kombat Trilogy & older MK games

I found it a while ago, you just extract to the file to the c:/windows/AppPatch folder and double click the file. It works better IMO and you don't have to worry about accidentailly clicking a file in the MKT folder and overwriting the patch.

I'm gonna add this:
MK / MK2 PC VBX file.
If you ever try to install PC MK games on XP, and you get an error regarding a file called "threed.vbx", download this file. It goes into the C:\Windows\System directory, and you may need to restart your PC for it to work.
Only problems with it are that MK1 is very unstable (doing the Slide among other moves will lock up the game, and it's hard to get out of it), and MK2 will not run Soundblaster (MK1 will), but Roland sound card selected will run shitty midi music and no sound fx. The game has no problems so far. Use at your own risk.

I stumbled across an application that'll fix the sound problem in MKII. It's called VDMSound. It emulates SoundBlaster/AdLib/MIDI sound in DOS better than XP/2000 does. It's an XP/2000 ONLY application and will not work on 9x. By default, XP tries to emulate DOS sound using A220 I5 D1 T3 P330. However, this obviously isn't working with MKII. So here is a solution:
1) Download and install VDMSound 2.0.4
http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/vdmsound/VDMSound-2.0.4-WinNT-i386.msi?download
- Double-click on VDMSound-2.0.4-WinNT-i386.msi to install
2) Download and install VDMSound 2.0.4 "Update 2"
http://vdmsound.sourceforge.net/files/VDMSound.2.0.4.update2.zip
- Unzip directly over the VDMSound 2.0.4 files, typically residing
in C:\Program Files\VDMSound; answer "yes" when prompted to overwrite
3) Download and install LaunchPad 1.0.1
http://vdmsound.sourceforge.net/files/VDMSLaunchPad.v1.0.1.1.zip
- run uninstall.bat to uninstall any previous verions of LaunchPad
- log off or reboot, then log on again (as Administrator)
- run install.bat
Now, this will register the drivers that will emulate the sound with your system. Once done, close that window and locate your MK2 executable and right-click on it. You should see two options listed near the top called "Run with VDMS". One has a musical note icon next to it and the other one doesn't. Select the one with the icon. This will bring up a Configuration Wizard with the option of using the default configuration or a custom. Let's choose default for now. Click next. On the next screen, leave everything as is (with "Remember my settings" checked) and click Finish. This will start up MK2. By default, VDMS uses A220 I7, so make sure these are set appropriately in MK2 if it isn't already.
Viola, it should work.
I got my custom configuration to work without playing the god-awful MIDI music. However, disabling the MIDI emulation (located within the custom settings) will not do this. If disabled, your sound card will take over. So simply uncheck the Output instead. Also, once you create a configuration of any kind, it will create a shortcut in the same directory that you may edit later on by right-clicking on it and selecting Properties > Advanced. Hope this helps.
