Well, the other day, me and my girlfriend was layin there, and I wanted to show her who my favorite MK character was, and the reason I paid $45 for a toy of him off ebay. So, I hooked up the SNES, put in MK2, and went to fight Smoke.

For those of you who know, Smoke isn't exactly the easiest person to defeat. In fact, he is the hardest in MK2 I believe, just because of his speed. Well I got beat a couple of times, but finally beat him. So, my girlfriend is all like "Hey I wanna try it.", though shes never played MK2 in her life and is actually really terrible at it.

She starts the fight as Mileena (calling her the "pretty" girl, if only she knew), Smoke runs up and throws her, and she starts highpunching like crazy. Smoke runs into her and gets punched until he dies. confused Ok, so round 2 comes up. I'm thinkin, theres no way she can do that again, but she does it again, only getting hit once by Smoke.

O wow! So I wasted hours trying to beat hard characters with technique when all I had to do was jam the hp button? God I'm worthless. Give this guy some Dragon Points.

I remember something similar for defeating Jade on MK2 for SNES. If you started hitting HP quickly as she ran in, you could get her at a distance where every other HP hit her and she would stand there and take it until she died. Very silly.

I was just trying to use that tactic on the arcade version, but it hardly works. Smoke either throws you or sweeps you. Maybe it's SNES exclusive tactic wink

I tried it out as well on Jade on the arcade a while back and found it just didn't work. SNES MK2 is just way too different from Arcade MK2 for much stuff to apply to both I guess.

The trick I used to beat Smoke in the arcade was a little different. You had to just time a jump kick so that he blocked it, after that he would always throw a spear so you could counter with whatever you felt like (preferably with a move that set up another jumpkick).

I beat him with Scorpion, so for me it was like: jumpkick and get blocked, block the spear, then throw a spear of your own and uppercut, jump right away for the next jumpkick and repeat the process until Smoke dies.

I'm not sure if that was only for a certain difficulty level, or if it only worked on the P1 side or anything like that. And I assume that the same AI tricks wouldn't work on SNES.

no idea for snes, but for arcade the only AI challenge with non "jumpbackers" is Liu Kang, a good way to beat him is with LP only, havent tryed HPs...

didnt know about the lp. cool. The early jk can be used by anyone to beat both liu kang and mileena. except kung lao has a weird kick so its better to do an early jp to dive kick. you can do early jp to torpedo with raiden and other juggles too.

liu has bad early jk, so its better jp against mileena with him, against mileena with lao jk+div kick x 3 and the round is yours:

On MK II Arcade, you can use Johnny Cage,s Egg Punch on every Ninja CPU.
It even works against Smoke on Very Hard, you just need the right timing.
If its right timed, it hit everytime.

Actually a similar problem with all the ale ninjas in mk2 was that if they tried to trip you (which they all did by a set program) and you were doing a constany low punch, they would keep trying and get stuck tripping and getting puched by never actually hitting you. All the guy ninjas were the same, so that's pretty efficient as well.
