Anyone have the MASTER SYSTEM version of MK1? Cus Reptile is playable without a Game Genie...

I was talking with Crow in the trivia IRC, and I mentioned this old way of playing as Reptile for the Master System version of MK1. i found it in an old code book called 'The Official Tips Bible' made by Sega Magazine in 1995.

I HAVE SEEN IT PERFORMED A LONG, LONG TIME AGO!

But we wanted to know if it is a code to actualy use Reptile (with freeze AND spear) or just a glitch that turns Sub Zero or Scorpion green? I cannot remember that long ago. If anyone has the game and wants to give it a shot here is the method:

"Here's a way of playing as Reptile. Fight your way through to Shang Tsung as player 1 and lose the first round against him. Then press button 1 on controller 2 and choose either Sub Zero or Scorpion and any character for controller 1. Use controller2 to beat the other character up and when you have won you will fight Shang Tsung as Reptile."

Reptile isn't anywhere in the Master System version of MK as far as I know. Your thinking of the glitch on Genesis where if P2 presses start while P1 is fighting Reptile ,Sub-Zero and Scorpion will be green.

No, I've seen it done on the Master System years ago. I know for sure it was the Master System, but it probably is just a glitch that turns Subz or Scorp green. I'm just wondering if anyone has it so they could try, but I know for a fact its on the SMS.

its a glitch, u press start on player two, and at the select screen scorp and sub be green

I'll try it later tonight, but as far as I know Reptile isn't even in the MS version.

Like the guy above said, it is just a glitch that turns the character a shade of green, nout special at all.

Ok, I did it. It works...sort of.

What happens is when the second player starts off fighting Shang he(Shang) is turned backwards. Then the fight starts and as soon as he morphs both you and him turn into weird colors. You're not green, you're not even one solid color, it's more like a film negative or a darker version of the Genesis "green sonya" glitch. Everytime he morphs you turn a different shade of that look. You're not Reptile or a green ninja and you don't have any extra moves. It's not really that interesting.

Well thanks for trying Anyasmile, I can swear I remember Shang fighting Reptile once though. I guess I'm wrong, and confused cus I always thought it was in Shang's Throneroom, but the SMS only had The Pit and Goro's Lair. I'm glad you tried it, cus I wanted to know, but now it's been cleared up. Weird glitch all the same, and I'm surprised anyone had a Master System to try it ongrin

lol i didnt even know the master system had the mk games. when i found out i only knew about mk1, i am surprised that midway bothered converting those games on that system. can anyone tell me whats missing in each version compared to the arcade version of mk1-3?

THats interesting. I would expect them to make MK3 for SMS if they made it for gamegear since the systems were so close, but they never made MK3 for game gear. I just looked up some screen shots of MK3 for SMS and it actually looked pretty good. I was very suprised by the number of colors on the screen. It looks like as many colors as Genesis has, lol.

MK3 IS out for Gamegear, it just wasn't released in the US. It was going to be(check all the print ads for MK3 before release) but was canned. It ended up coming out in the UK, Brazil and a few other countries.


The MK games for SMS are estentially exact ports of the Gamegear games, MK3 included.

Good to know. Can never get enough info about the outdated MKs.

Just looked at the video game museum page and they even have the endings for MK3 for GG, very neat. I remember being impressed by MK2 for GG, and MK3 seems to have slightly better graphics, but its hard to tell. Looks like they decided to use more similar colors in the backgrounds so they end up looking extremely dark but it does look better then MK2 which had only a handful of colors all very different.
Master System's MK didn't have Reptile, or even Kano. Why was there only a PAL version released?

By 1993 Master system was dead, buried, and LONG forgotten in the United States.

I used to play MK1, Sonic, After Burner, Paper Boy (think thats what it was called,) Olympic Gold '92, Robocop vs Terminator and some other crap SMS games. I even owned one for a little bit - the SMS 2, here's a pic:



Probably an update, like the newer model NES released in the 90's. I miss those days.

MK3 for the Game Gear is horrendous, bordering on unplayable. The graphics look great in stills, but try playing the damn thing...
