When something better than UMK3 comes out, I'll let you all know, because it still hasn't happened yet.

Specifically for MK1-UMK3(MKT) no port is over all less buggy (if not they are all more buggy) has better graphics, sounds, or music, then any of their respective arcade versions. MK3 for the PC has 99.9% perfect arcade rips of the musics, with some minor editing. Control is definitely up to the person, whether they like the stick, a keyboard, or a gamepad, but if it's the actual translation of the response of the game you're talking about, again, arcade, except for MKT, because MKT is exactly like the arcade only 33% faster (from frame sacrifice). I have played every PC port, and most of the major home ports, and none of them are exact duplicates of the arcade (yet). It's really tough to say because the arcade should be used as a reference in comparing all the home ports, not actually being part of the comparison in general.

Thanks for the info since I was wondering if any of the PC ports were up-graded in any way. Also I didn't use the console ports since I was only interested in how good the PC ports are compared to the arcade versions. But thanks anyway Mr.Rep.

I've had MKII, MK3 and MK Trilogy for PC. It's possible I messed up a setting, but MKII had some horrid MIDI music if I recall correctly. I could try to fix it but these days I just use MAME.

MK3 was a really good port. They really seemed to work hard on that one, adding a bunch of unique cheats and whatnot. You actually used the command line in DOS to activate things like backwards mode, midget mode, and hyper speed, and you could make Motaro and Shao Khan playable. The tracks were all CD audio, and if you put the disc in a normal player there were actually two tracks from UMK3 and a secret track that had people reading poetry backwards (I'm dead serious).

MKT for PC as far as I can tell is a direct port of the PSX version. They even force you to map a "select" button when you set the controls. The only difference I'm aware of is that they removed the extra Shang Tsung morph options, since the hard drive lets him morph into anyone with no load time (although, oddly enough, in a 2 on 2 match your morphing will be limited to a few characters of your choice... not sure if that's just a programming oversight or what). Also, in this version you can swap CDs if you like and actually run music off of any audio CD, which could be kinda cool.
