I wonder why the MK team chose to call Baraka Baraka?

For those who don't know, Barakah is a female Islamic name, which means 'Blessing'(it comes from the word Barak).

I dont know, I don't really know any Turkish people, however Ermac is not a Muslim name, it must be an ethnic Turkish name.

A Muslim name is Arabic, but not all Arabic names are Muslim. Just because a Muslim or a person from an Islamic country has a certain name it's not an 'islamic name'. Its kind like there robert, which is just an english name, then there is john, which is a christian name.

Just a thought, but do you think that they named him "Baraka" just because they didn't know that it was a real word? It's not that hard to make up a name, but the odds of it being similar, or even exactly the same as a real word in another language is high.

I also know a Soul Calibur 2 player named Baraka, I'm not 100% sure it's his actual given name, but I would 99% sure.

Perhaps they saw some of the old 60s spy movies from europe, Baraka Sur 7 and Baraka X 77. There was also that documentary released in 1992 called Baraka, and a poet named Amiri Baraka originally from New Jersey.

Isn't Baraka also a north-African name for one of the gods of the ground?
