IMO, the Megadrive has the better MK1, but the SNES beats it on the rest.

SNES wins on all of them personally. They hacked the crap out of the frames in MK2 and MK3 on Gen. It made it nauseating to look at.

MK1 on Genesis (due to the whole censorship deal), everything else on SNES (though MK2 on Genesis is worth checking out at least once, since it's the only one with the mighty Fergality)

Thanks Guys for all your feedback. I just finsihed playing all the Genesis versions...And Mortal Kombat II would have to be the worst of them all. The colours were off, the announcer was totally gone, and the screams and moans were horrible. But now I don't have to waste money on a Genesis.

I want the perfect MK collection.

Indeed. I was sadly dissapointed in Genesis MKII. That's why I rank MK 1 as the best on that system. Announcer, sounds, blood, demos... I think only the graphics were bad sad

I own MK1-3 on Snes and they beat the living s*** out of the ones I have for Genesis. The SNES ones had better sound, graphics, and gameplay.

Well I think that both versions of each game had their good and bad points. I think that the music in the Genesis version of MK2 was a lot better than the music in the SNES version. I think the graphics were the same to me in my opinion for those games except that Sub-Zero's costume was a darker blue in the SNES version. I think that the sound fx in MK1 for the SNES were better than the genesis's sound fx. I'm not sure about the music though. As for UMK3 for the SNES, it was missing quite a bit such as kombat zones and other stuff but it had some secret menu stuff which was cool. And I also liked the music for Scorpion's lair in that version.

Well I just got back from playing both versions of MK1 and MK2 on the SNES and Genesis and here is what I think:

MK1 for the SNES had better fitting music and sound fx than the Genesis version and it also had the fatality music and better controls (because of the controller) but the Genesis version did have the blood code and the screen actually turned dark during a fatality. Another thing is that the Genesis version had pics with text for the endings. However, I liked the SNES version better.

The sound fx and music were much better in the Genesis version than the SNES's sound fx and music. However, the SNES version had the voice overs for the characters' names and other stuff and the control was better (due to the controllers). The SNES version also had a secret 4 player tournament thing. The SNES version also had a better presentation for the endings were better (SNES had pics and text while the Genesis version had only text). However, I found the Genesis version to be more challenging and I like it better overall.

If only they were to remake these games for the GBA and have all of the strong points from both versions into them while leaving the weak ones out would be really cool.

The PSX port of MK3 and the Saturn port of UMK3 just destroy both of the 16 bit ports. If you want a "perfect collection" get those.

It depends of if you can live with the fact that the Genesis was a gravely inferior system compared to the SNES. On that note, the Genesis MK1 beats SNES just because it wasn't edited (fully), and has the blood in it. The SNES MK2 does have better sound and visuals, but the Genesis had somewhat better gameplay. For MK3, Williams did what Probe could not do for Genesis MK and MK2 by actually putting all the sounds into it, though bad in quality, they showed that MK and MK2 could have been better if Probe had used the same methods Williams did. UMK3 is pretty equal on both systems, as the very limited space prevented annoucements, some levels, and sounds from being in the game.

MK1 for Genesis is vastly better than the SNES version. The Genesis version has faster gameplay, better music, ending pictures, and blood. The SNES only has slightly better graphics (but they are kinda blurry compared to the Genesis version).

The SNES version of MK2 and above is better than the Genesis versions, though. Mainly because of better graphics.

But if you really want the "perfect collection", then get the Arcade versions on MAME. Arcade versions > than others.

Mame is just emulation. That is lame.

At least with myself, if I am talking about a collection I want the REAL THING.

dedicated arcade machine > MAME rom.

I am working on that now. All I have left is a MK3 cabinet. They're like impossible to find and I am not settling for a converted MK II or anything else.

But anyway, I'd rather have the complete and legit UMK3 for Saturn as part of my collection than a rom.

Well I just discovered the Genesis 32X version of MK2 and I must say that it is the best I've seen so far (i've only played the arcade version of MK2 once years ago and I don't remember much so i won't compare it to the other versions). The 32X version has the music from the genesis version, which IMO is far better than the SNES version music. It has the pics and ones that were missing from both the Genesis and SNES versions and there are more colors and more/better sound fx.

32X MK II does have the intro, but it does not have the ending pictures(which SNES does).

Well I sort of understand what you mean, but at least the Genesis and Genesis 32X versions don't have that howling dog like sound like in the SNES version. That sound kinda annoyed me. sad
