It's not my idea, but I like it. It seems to reasonably explain who Classic Sub-Zero might be. I don't think anyone has brouht up this idea, so here goes.

From Son of TMOG at Gamefaqs:

Classic Sub-Zero is the memory of the original Sub-Zero in Noob Saibot's mind, just like Human Smoke is the memory in Robot Smoke's mind.

I always liked the idea of Classic SubZero in UMK 3 to have no tie ins with the MK storyline at all up to that point. I think Classic Sub is there much to the effect that scorpion and subzero were hidden characters in The Midway produced arcade game, The Grid. Nothing more than a novelty.

^^Thank You, I dont even care if Classic Sub-Zero was involved in that storyline or not, I was just happy to see him and play as him. I loved having both younger Sub-Zero and older Sub-Zero on the same game as playable characters. Both of course have the ice ball but also they had different moves and combos of their own. gringringringringringrin
