What on earth was cyrax doing in the sand dune in MK3, or was it MKU?

It was in UMK3.

He's ending explains the reason. He was searching for Lin Kuei Base, waiting new orders that never came and ended stuck there.

Curious is that they did not remove the robot when you fight him or with him in that screen.

Oh well.
