Does Johnny Cage really do anything to the overall storyline?
You know, those who don't like Liu Kang, you have to admit that at least he does something to contribute to the overall storyline, Johnny Cage however just does nothing. His story is probably the worst of all the MK characters (and it didn't help that the only development he got when he died, but soul was zapped to body and if Earth/Outworld merger was undone he would die again, but yet he fought anyway) and also although Scorpion gets his ass kicked a lot (Thanks Midway) he does at the very least put up a fight before going down, sounds to me like Johnny just loses whatever fight he gets into. Now I'd like to point out that I don't hate Johnny Cage, but don't like him either. I can tolerate him,but overall what's in his story that's really worth pointing out?

He's my favourite character, but I will admit that Johnny Cage's storyline is very weak. I wish Vogel had never retconned his death/ressurection storyline, as well as undoing years of facts, they could have done a lot of interesting things with this. Now they need to tell us exactly WHAT Johnny's role was in the time he was supposedly killed and ressurected.

In MK1, and to a smaller degree MK2, Johnny Cage was mainly out for himself, fighting on behalf of number one. When he entered the first tournament, most people would probably have seen him as an early casualty. But the movie star really can fight, emerging as one of the top competitors, survivng the contest, and proving himself to be a powerful defender of Earth. Each MK has a couple of characters out for themselves, and in the early ones, he was that one of them.

As I said, Vogel needs to give us details on what Johnny Cage was actually up to throughout MK3/MKG. He didn't really do much in MKDA, but hopefully his one game break will give Midway the time to do something interesting with Johnny Cage story wise. It's time they gave the Hollywood idol a storyline that fits his status as an MK veteran, and one of the series's most well rounded fighters.

Plus, love him or hate him, Johnny Cage adds to MK's storyline and cast in other ways. The cocky pretty boy has more personality than many of the other characters put together. Plus he adds a little light releif to a sometimes dark series, but without going to far and being unfunny (like Mokap or Bo Rai Cho).

Umm, do you ever have anything possitive to say about Mortal Kombat? All I've been hearing from you as of late is Hateful negativitay. It's starting to annoy the hell out of me. The first ten times I stayed silent but I had to say something this time.

In MK3, Jonny was heart of the story. When he returned from the dead to fight a long side he friends he was the definition of the word hero. Staring death in the face and accepting his fate, he was one of the reasons Liu was able to succeed.

When they retconed his death in MK3 though they killed his character. It was definately one of the worst decisions in MK history.

I'm not quite sure why all of a sudden you're suddenly acting like a total asshole. If I want a topic to bring up, then I will. If it's positive, it's positive, if it's negative, it's negative. Get it? Got it? Good. So therefore if there's something I want to bring up, then I will. OK, you cool with that?

I see Johnny cage as a bit of a loudmouth, but I think he represents Earthrealm a bit more than Liu Kang does. He's not some Destined Warrior , a decendant of some great fighter or anyone special. He's just an average man. He tells jokes, he's flashy and cocky, not boring like Liu Kang, but he's a great fighter at the same time. He brings that Earthrealm style to the series(Like Kano does kinda) that sets him apart from the other fighters. While the others seem to be concerned with fighting and not much else Johnny thinks about stuff like his career as a movie star. He's like the Spiderman of the MK universe. The common man can relate to him more than anyone else. While he may not have the most interesting storylines, The fact that he's there is enough.
