The reason I'm asking is that I just booted up UMK3 and Ermac, Mileena and Classic Sub-Zero were all available from the get-go. Is this because I used the ultimate kombat codes to unlock them the last time I played? Or is this because of the last patch?

Yes it does.

Here's a video showing your data is saved after unlocking Ermac, Mileena and Sub-Zero. Take a look at the bottom right corner and you'll see "saving"

yes whenever you unlock characters in umk3 it automaticly saves your characters.they even stay when you go online.so you dont have to go into single player first THEN go online like in the umk3 version on marketplace.wowwow
