Has there ever been a working rom of MK4? The one I saw for N64 a while ago was incomplete and the one I saw for MAME doesn't seem to be fully functional either.

You are correct. The one for MAME will get to the ROM check screen and then freeze.

Which means they plan on making it playable sometime in the near future, like many other games that screw up.

I've seen some ROMs where the info screen says "will never work; for reference only." I think all Capcom CPS 3 games have that message. Anyone know what that's all about?

Well, I don't think they can say for certain whether something will never work, but it probably means they aren't going to try and emulate it any time soon.

I hope that they will emulate MK4, it was a fun game IMO.

How much time does it take to emulate a game? and why does it take son long to emulate MK4? is there any 3-D games for MAME that have been emulated?

A bunch of 3D games have been emulated in general, I think a bunch for MAME as well. But, a lot of games run on an arcade system that can handle various games, like Naomi, modeler, the sony systems, etc.

MK4 used unique hardware, no other games used it. I think that probably adds to the difficulty of emulating it, partially because the system may be less flexible and understandable and partially because there is a lot of work in emulating the system and you only get 1 game out of it.

all I can say is that I'd like to see it emulated.

The hardware is called Zeus, and apparently it's pretty tough to emulate. I will of course give the game a shot against people but it can't replace UMK3.

i have a complete n64 rom of mk4( all fatalities, endings, and cheats)...runs nice too

but i stick to playing my ps1 copy of it, for the sake of the tv and controller...but i need a damn ps1 mem card so i can save the endings and stuff (of course a ps2 mem card wont hold ps1 info... sad )

I have the Ninetendo 64 version of Mortal Kombat 4. I have to say it does not do the game justice. So much detail was taken out of the backgrounds and character models it isn't even funny. I seriously hope they get a fully working ROM of MK4 for MAME out. I loved the arcade version. I also wouldn't mind snagging Mortal Kombat Gold. Looks pretty much arcade perfect plus the extar characters and FMVs make it look like a very nice upgrade to an already good (in my opinion at least) entry into the series.

Blah, MKG sucks compared to MK4 arcade. Once MK4 gets fully emulated, I'll plop down money for a computer. Because I want to be able to run it.

MK Gold's graphics are not arcade perfect. It looks very different from arcade. The PSX/N64 versions are closer to the arcade than MKG.

I have a MK4 cabinet, so I'm not exactly dying to play it on PC. Now if they could emulate the Road Tour rev or Rev 1 that'd be interesting.

i think MKGolds graphics were actually better than arcade! and the PSX/n64/PC versions were absolute crap compared to the original models, have a closer look, you'll be surprised!!

MKG had higher poly counts then any of the other home versions. Thats obvious when you download the MKG models into PC MK4 and see the huge different. I remembered MK4 for N64 looking pretty good, its interesting to hear that it wasn't that great. I only played it a couple of times so I can understand if I am remembering wrong. But I do know that PSX and PC were garbage.

Hmm. Well, I wasn't aware that Gold's graphics were _that_ worse than the arcades. But surely they are better than the N64's? Plus, all those extra characters and a few more arenas would make it the best choice out of psx, N64 and DC right? I never played Gold, but that is how it seems to me.

I am not saying the PC/N64/PSX versions look BETTER than MKG, but they do look more like the arcade. MKG has this shiny look to it, it looks very different from the arcade. The home versions of MK4 have the same rough look the arcade does.

The characters models in MKG look like plastic, the lighting is messed up, shadowing and camera is garbage. They tried to expand MK4 arcade. But they just ended up making it worse. All the home versions sucked.

The N64 version of Mortal Kombat 4 was the best home version. Eurocom, who were masters with the N64 hardware, were able to get almost CD quality music, crystal clear sound effects/voices, and close to arcade perfect graphics on the cartidage. Not to mention, the N64 was the only version that had the original aracde endings instead of the redone CG endings(which was a cartidage limitation but I liked the in-game engine endings better anyway).
