MK1 was one of the best MKs. It was great because it was the first. it suprised us. after that it was recycled gameplay, that was cool because they were good. MKD however was the worst MK. it was god awful, it sucked! IT was boring!

YES! Finally I get to post my opinions and observe others who share waht I previously believed to be an alienated view!
1. MKII
The greatest in feel, design, sprites (not crispness like MK3 but FEELING in general) and most of all FATALITIES! MKII had the most original fatalities (I loved the visceral damage in the sprites like in Kung Lao's hat slice).
2. MK:DA
Now I'm not going to claim that this game has the gameplay (it doesn't, it's choppy and underdeveloped IMHO) but one thing it DOES have is good, well developed, interlocking, storylines. The stories in previous MK games were sparse and often contradicted one another from character to character causing immense confusion over the general storyline. The same is true in MK:Deception. One of the reasons i place it in...
3. MK:Deception
The most fluid MK game in terms of gameplay to date. Unique stage fatalities (although I'm a little dissapointed that nobody falls face DOWN in any of them....have some variety dammit!), numerous characters with as many styles times 3, and smooth well developed models and stages.
4. MK1
This game is a historical monument as far as I'm concerned. It was the very first true video game I ever played in my entire life. That's right, we had it at my summer camp when I was 4 freakin' years old. It most likely ruined my psyche for life. It was the first, the trend-setter, the ultimate in all classic fighting gaming.
5. MK:Mythologies
This game brought useful insight into the history of the MK universe (even if it focused on Sub-Zero). It gave us a first glimpse at characters such as Shinnok (so much more badass than in MK4 too!), Quan Chi, Sareena, and the original conflict between Sub-Zero and SCORPION. Not to mention it was a healthy mix of fighting and adventure
6. The MK3 series (I group them all as one)
This group consists of MK3, UMK3, and MK:Trilogy. In my opinion these three are all the same game, just with a few tweaks. Gameplay is essentially identical, just a few added characters. Running was stupid (always hated it), I personally disliked the style in terms of the sprites (the gibs looked like crap in MK3), and my biggest gripe of all...nearly every single fatality GIBBED, and even after the character was BLOWN TO BITS he/she continued to scream (how wierd is THAT?)
7. Finally, the big loser of the group: MK4/Gold
These games were just plain terrible. The 3-D was blocky and the animations robotic. This game introduced such terrible characters as Jerek, Tanya, and Reiko (why did they bring Tanya back in Deception? WHY!?). The fatalities were redeeming but didn't serve to overcome the incredible boring-ness of the gameplay. Fatalities were difficult to perform and it looked terrible...I know i'm sounding like I'm just flaming this game but I just can't think straight when it comes to MK4...I just hate it THAT much....

Dude of course you have to go with MK2 the new characters were awesome and the new combo system rocked. Deception is great too. Man if they came out with classic MK games for online play like a Trilogy port that they cleaned up and put online man they would sell some copies.
