Friggin' XP...

Okay, so I stumbled upon MK Online, and was overjoyed to find a patch for MK Trilogy! I downloaded the stuff, installed the patch, and the game WORKED. I was loving it!

Then a couple of days ago, it just... stopped. I figured it was a freak thing. I had changed a couple of things around on the computer (installing a network driver) so I thought it was just a normal problem. But since then, I've re-installed the game NUMEROUS times, removed registry entries, installed the patch, uninstalled the patch, reinstalled the patch, reset my machine, set the compatibility mode to Win2000, etc.

And now, for some reason, I can't start a game of MKT. The game loads up, but with no sound effects. I can watch the demo fights and all that (there's music, but no sound) but as soon as I press start, I get this error message:

Application Error: C:\MK_Tril\MKTRILW.EXE

The instruction at 00502ea5 referenced memory at 00000012
The memory could not be read from

Click on OK to terminate the application

OK

-------------
Like I said, I've reinstalled the game and the patch numerous time and haven't gotten any results. What really gets me though is that this game was WORKING just a week ago, with no problems. What the hell?

So if anyone has ANY insight on this issue, any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

It sounds like you have two of the same files confilcting with one another. I still do not know why some people need the patch? My games have been working fine with all sound, and music, and no bugs, or freezes. I just got done playing MKT just a while ago. Anyway, when you downloaded the patch file you got another MKT.exe file that actually makes the application run on WXP. When you first install your game, the old MKT.exe file would still be there too. Even if you remove, and install again, the two files will have confilcts as they will both be trying to run one application. That's all I realy know what is going on. I'm not 100% sure on how to fix the problem, but you basically have conflicting files trying to run one application. Sorry if I haven't helped.

Interesting, I will think about that...

To clarify exactly what I've done so far... The patch I used is the file called "mktv2.sdb"

After installing MKT, I place mktv2.sdb it in the AppPatch folder and double-click it. I run the game, and I get that error message when I try to start a game. And I have no idea why, but now I don't get sound when the game starts up either (I had sound when it was working before).

Should I maybe delete the MKTRILW.EXE file, and THEN install the patch? Will that create a new EXE file to run the game? Sorry if I am misunderstanding what you said before. Again, thanks in advance for any info!

Okay, so I just randomly tried running MKT today, and the game started up and I could actually play it. BUT there was still no sound. Also, player one's directional controls seemed to be freaking out, as the cursor was just wildly moving all over the select screen right off the bat.

So the game ran without sound, with screwy player one controls. I shut the game down and loaded it up again - but this time, I got the error message when I hit start, just like before.

This is just a wile guess, but I'm gonna try disconnecting my USB controller. I'm not sure why this would affect anything, but I've heard of people experiencing problems in games that ended up being related to USB ports. And the wacky P1 controls also have me wondering... I'll try this when I get home.

Whoo-hoo!! I unplugged my USB gamepad, and BOOYAA, everything worked fine! I didn't actually use that pad to play MK (I use the X-Arcade), so this solution was perfect.

So if any of you are having similar problems, try unplugging any USB devices. Chances are you've already read this solution in the "MKT - No Sound" thread. Whatever, I'm spreadin' the love!
