I was quite young in the early 90s. I used to go into the arcade and walk around until I saw the MK machines, it was such a big deal. I usually stood to the side and watched while all the bigger kids played. Once in a while I was able to play but they usually kicked me off the machine after one match...not much sympathy for a 9 year old kid.

Anyway, now I am almost 30 and I want to play again. I know this question has been "asked to death", but there really is never any definitive consensus. What console should I get so I can start playing again?

When I was younger I had a genesis, I like the idea of retro gaming, but now that I am older I think the graphics and inconsistencies with the arcade game would bother me.

I am thinking either sega saturn or ps3 arcade kollection.

Help me, please!

The Arcade Kollection is the best method of playing MK 1-3 these days ( well outside of actually buying the arcades at least).

All the previous home ports of MK 1-3 either suffered in terms of graphics/sound compared to the arcade (the SNES and Genesis ports) or were bogged down my horrendous load times (any disc-based game be it for the PlayStation, Sega CD, or Saturn).

The Arcade Kollection is nearly perfect and has hardly any loading at all plus MK 1, 2, and UMK 3 are all online (not sure how many people still play though). Get that version over any other.

Thanks.

I appreciate the responses.

Please excuse my ignorance, after all I haven't played video games in years....So if I download the Arcade Kollection, you say it is online and you are not sure how many people still play it, but can I play it offline against AI or a friend? I guess the idea of not having a tangible cartridge or disk is really unfamiliar to me.

Thanks

You can play the game offline perfectly fine. The online portion is just for playing the versus mode over the internet. You can play the single player arcade mode or local versus mode (such as you and a friend sitting on the couch playing together).
