I was really hoping for MK4...but maybe there will have a MAT3 with both MK4 and UMK3 in the future...

I hope there not Console ports.
They could easily put the actual arcade Rom versions on the disk, Mortal Kombat 1 alone is only 6MB and how big is a DVD disc (if they use one) 4-7GB. I rest my cause.

Mind you after reading it does actually say
"the compilation will feature 21 ports from the venerable publisher's arcade catalog on a single disc"
I would take that as being arcade ports myself.

They used the arcade ROMS for the first Arcade Treasures, so this will probably be the same. All 21 games combined will take about 400MB of disc space.

They will most definitely be console ports.
The game has to be changed and converted in order for it to play on something like the Playstation 2.
Unlike the actual arcade games, you can change the settings under an available options menu that affect gameplay. Things such as the difficulty level and time are obviously things that will be able to be changed as those options are almost always available on just about every console game ever created.
As far as playing actual arcade ROM's on a home system.. I dunno much about that, but if that were possible there would definitely need to be some kind of conversion process done in order for the system to play the game. The system has to have some way of encoding and translating the information on the disc. So this is where some type of emulator would come into play, and as far as I know.. there's no such thing as an arcade emulator for the Playstation 2, X-Box, or Gamecube. Hence, they need to be translated by some other means.
And most of the games on the first Midway Arcade Treasures compilation were not perfect. For one, the music on 720 was not all the same original music as the arcade version, the bike moves too fast on Paperboy, and the fuel tank empties WAAAAY TOO SOON on Roadblasters, even on the easiest diffuculty level. I assure you, these were not perfect arcade versions. Therefore, I don't expect these MK games to be perfect either. I would love to see it, but I won't get my hopes up.

Anyone else notice that in the screen pic of Sub-Zero Vs. Cage, that it says ''FINISH HIM!'' even though there is 95 or 85 seconds left in the fight and Cage has most of his health left?
That's evidence right there that it's being worked on, that it's not the real deal.

This gives me the impression we'll be having fully emulated versions of the games.

I'm pretty sure they're arcade roms run through an emulator. I was looking at the screenshots they had listed on the site and they showed the character selection screen for MK1 and I've played EVERY home version of MK1 and the arcade version which I also have on an emulator on my computer and I compared the picture to my emulator and they're like identical with the face details and all that were missing on the home versions. I'm pretty sure these are going to play just like the arcade. I'm pumped.

What?!? Where the hell is NBA Jam? They need to add Jam DAMNIT! Other than that, most of the games look sweet. Can't wait to get it.

Yeah, I'm very hyped about this! But damn man PRIMAL RAGE!!! I never had the chance to play the arcade version, only the far from perfect port console version on the Genesis, while watching the arcade version on the TV program 'Gamesmaster', haha, never forget that...they had Mortal Kombat on that show back in 1992. I remember they had the characters who played sonya and jonny cage against each other as their own fighters in the game!!! Cage won I think haha.

is the arcade version of MK1 a lot better then the PC version? what are the differences?
I think it's pretty safe to say these will be arcade versions on here.
1. The first MAT had all arcade roms emulated and they were arcade quality.
2. The article says from the arcade catalog.
3. It's called Midway Arcade Treasures which means arcade versons.
Gamespot probably just said ports since they can be considered arcade ports even though they are arcade roms emulated. The big question is are they going to be emulated with arcade perfection? I hope so.
Also I wish they would have included UMK3 and MK4. Also NBA Jam would have been awesome too.
Does anyone that has MAME know if you can hook a controller up to it since they are emulated on a pc? I want to get MAME but only cause of the games being arcade quality.

1. How do you know they were arcade ROM's? Most of the games on the first Midway Arcade Treasures had already been released on various compilations for Playstation 1, Saturn, and Dreamcast. Were they all running on arcade emulators too? There were slight differences between most of those games on the different consoles also, justifying that none of those games were perfectly emulated using arcade ROM's.
What I'm guessing Midway did was, they took the previously programmed console versions of games like Gauntlet, Paperboy, Rodblasters, etc., and they tweaked them a bit so they'd look better and run smoother on the newer systems. And since these games are all at least 10 years old, they should be ''arcade quality'' or very close.
Namco did the same thing with Namco Museum. They had already released those games on various compilations on the Playstation 1, but tweaked them so they'd run better on the Playstation 2. And I know for a fact that these were not arcade ROM's running on an emulator either, because Ms. Pac-Man played at a much faster speed than regular Pac-Man in the arcades. However, the PS2 version plays at exactly the same speed as regular Pac-Man.
2. Well yeah, it says ''from the arcade catalog'' because they were popular arcade games manufactured by Midway. But just because it says the word ''arcade,'' that doesn't mean that it will be ''arcade perfect.''
The home versions of all the MK's all made some mention of the fact that it is based on ''the popular arcade game'' or that ''you can now play or experience the arcade game at home.'' But we all know that they were nowhere near ''arcade perfect.''
3. Umm.. no. Again, it's called Arcade Treasures simply because they were known to be popular arcade games. However, that doesn't mean they will be exact ''pixel-for-pixel'' translations. Again, think of the Super Nintendo and Genesis versions of MK.
The game development team's job is mainly to get the games to look and play as close as they can to the arcade version.

I will shoot myself if they're not arcade perfect! We're talking Xbox here, not genesis! lol

The guys name who played Johnny Cage was Daniel Pesina. He also played Sub Zero, Scorpion and Reptile. He played all of those characters in MK2 also. Back in 1995 he came and talked to my Tae Kwon Do class. It was awesome. He came on like a Saturday when there wasn't actually class but he came in and did a martial arts demonstration and then there was an autograph signing afterward. I was only 11 at the time so I couldn't think of anything meaningful to ask him but it was a really cool experience. Too bad I lost the autographed 8x10 of him dressed as Scorpion.
