It is specific. It says "Now you must battle an undiscovered warrior from Mortal Kombat One!!"

Wether it means MK1, the original tournament (Goro vs Kung Lao), or a joke, take it as you will.

Yeah, I've always wondered why it said "You must battle with an undiscovered warrior from MK1" I have no idea why it said that.

It was almost surely a joke or just something to stir interest at first, but it has since taken on new meaning with later stories.

Like we know Noob Saibot was spying on the events of the first two games so it makes sense that he would be in MK1. We also know Smoke was an ally of Sub-Zero so it makes sense. Jade also had a reason to be there as she worked for Kahn.

I am not saying they are actually in the MK1 game, but in the storyline, it is entirely possible they were on Earth when it happened.

Now with that in mind, I think that the Mortal Kombat Movie should have had them in it since they should have been there for some reason or another.

well maybe we didnt see them because they were undiscovered,as in they really arent in the game, they are just trying to link them to it.
