Khan in MKT. Help!

I just got this game, and I think it is absurd how difficult Khan is. I am on Very Easy on the Novice ladder, and I simply cannot beat Khan. I have been trying for over an hour. I am playing as Cage, and I simply can't find a way to beat him. The best tactic I have found is to block until I can uppercut him, but that only works once in a blue moon, never twice in a row. Any help on how to beat Khan would be greatly appreciated because I'm getting very frustrated with this game.

To be honest, I have only ever beaten him with
Sub-Zero. You can get away with just freezing him
over and over again!

Are there endings to MKT? I know in the more recent games, when you win you get to see your character's ending and stuff. That would be ridiculous if you could pretty much only see Sub-Zero's ending.

When the round starts, duck, don't hold block. Everytime Kahn does something, run in and combo him. You will have to know combos that do more then the average Kahn attack.
If you duck and don't block, chances are you will be able to get a combo in after he attacks. Certainly you will get a combo after he does a shoulder charge. An upward one will miss, combo, and a ground one will hit you, you will stumble but you will recover quick enough to get a combo in.
The characters all have endings in MKT. Some are the same as they were in UMK3 for the arcade, some they actually changed between the arcade and MKT (like Human Smokes).
Just work on duck, don't block, run in combo after an attack, eventually you will find it is easy to beat kahn with just about everyone this way.

Thanks for the info, I'll try that out next time. I just need to learn some combos first, it seems. I finally beat Khan w/ my duck, block, uppercut technique, but I didn't see an ending. All I saw was Khan turning green, then it said something about "Johnny Cage Wins. Shao Khan has been defeated." After that, I had to choose a little symbol and I lost the "MK1 Endurance Match". I never saw an ending. What did I do wrong?

After you beat it, you get to pick one of the small icons. Each icon gives you something different. Some of the icons can only be chosen if you beat a higher level.
I think the character ending is the left most icon but its been a while.

Thanks. So say I do pick one of the icons and beat the "MK1 Endurance Match". Would that give me anything extra or just the match itself be the reward? I'll try the left most icon next time I manage to beat Khan though.
Here's another easy way to win.
Always duck and only block when he does the ground shoulder rush. If he does a rising shoulder rush then uppercut him and right away start running towards him and uppercut him again. Once you get the timing down you can pretty much rinse and repeat all the time. The timing is tricky but seems to be like this. You'll want to uppercut him right as he is getting up and it should usually hit him, but sometimes he will block it. Also throwing in combos when he shoot's a green fireball is always good but make sure you get the full combo off so you knock him away from you.
He's actually easy once you learn the timing of the uppercut. Once you do, you can tear him apart quickly. Also people like Sub-Zero and any ninja who can teleport has a huge advantage against him. You can fake him out just like any other character with the teleport and you can always freeze him while he is getting up if you time that right.
Hope this helps.

The match itself is the reward. Also DreemerNJ is right, the 1st(far left icon) is the ending. The game starts you on that icon right away once you beat Shao Kahn.

Sheeva Effortlessly Beating Shao Kahn
The most effective way to defeat Shao Kahn, it is a combination of both the methods from DreemerNJ and CMeth, however there was only 1 time when an uppercut was needed, so substitute combos with uppercuts on knee lifts, or depending on the character, anti air HP HP projectile, which does a bit more than an uppercut usually.

Pretty good video.
Using my method though can save you much more life, since if you get the timing down to near perfect always he will never get the chance to attack.
But I do agree that my method and DreemerNJ's should be combined. But I think only for the green fireballs and if he hits you with the shoulder rush should you run in and combo. Other then that if you can connect with one uppercut you should continue to do that for aslong as you can and then if you mess up or you can't get an uppercut off then resort to the run in combos.

You can also use the uppercut timing for launcher combos since they knock him down, walk in and wait until Shao Kahn is in the middle of his getting up frames and start the combo, what happens is he probably goes to counter, but there isn't any frames between your initial hit his start up of the move. This is definitely an AI break. So in this situation he is knocked into the air as if he were uppercut, but you can do more damage. Another way to combine the two strats.
Some characters like the Robots are stuck though, they can't run in and combo after an unblocked tackle, and their uppercuts suck and miss Shao Kahn a lot when you try the free uppercut strategy. Cyrax can't knock Shao Kahn down with combos and neither can Robot Smoke, you can't even teleport uppercut before he recovers, and if you try to harpoon him, he'll fireball you. Best thing to do with them is try to out fight him, I just tried with Robot Smoke to come up with a strat, first round I got a perfect cause he played into everything I did, next round I couldn't touch him. There's another way to make him do knee lifts, but it doesn't always work, get an uppercut, then sweep as he gets up, try to get him to block it or get hit by it, he will more than not go for a knee lift.

I didn't knew how to beat Kahn. But what I read here is pretty interesting. I'm gonna try it out later this day. There are only two characters which I use to easily beat Kahn.
The first is Rain: Use the water ball move, Pull Kahn towards you, roundhouse kick him away. After this repeat it, till' he is defeated. After you hit him for the first time with the Water Ball you practically already have won, he will never block it.
The second is Noob Saibot: Use the Disabler/Ghost Ball. Immediately after you hit Kahn with the Ball, use this combo: LK, LK, LK, LK. Kahn is still disabled after this combo. After that one, use this one: HP, HP, LP, HK. The result is you uppercut him with this combo. As soon as Kahn gets up again, use the Disabler/Ghost Ball again and repaet the combos. This is the most easy way to defeat Kahn.

I usually just wait until he shoulder attacks me and then I run in and uppercut and then run in and uppercut when he is starting to get up...I repeat it until he is pretty much dead.
It works 8/10 times for me...
in other words, it works like a charm.

LOL. MK2 Shao Kahn was much more difficult than MKT Shao Kahn imo.
But all the bosses had cheap tricks to defeat them (for example with MK2 Shao Kahn you could use Kitana or Baraka).
Once you get used to the bosses and the ways to defeat them you find yourself toying with them (but MK2 Shao Kahn is to be toyed the least

jlacroix Wrote: That Sheeva video is sweet, did you make it with the arcade version? If so, how did you get MAME to run so smoothly? Please PM me if you can to let me know or if anyone else knows the correct settings to play MAME MK3 |
Funny how you say "smoothly" lol. The frame rate on that is chopped down quite a bit from the full fps. My computer is a P4 3.2 gHz so I can run UMK3 with full everything and not have any loss in frame rate. I used an on screen recording program called Camtasia. This also leads me to believe you haven't seen the UMK3 combo videos. Go here UMK3 Kombo Videos of Death and DL umk3.wmv, and the umk3sp's 1-4. They are all different combo videos.
