King Jerrod was the original king of Edenia, Kitana's birth father, and Sindel's first husband. Once he was killed by Shao Kahn, Edenia became a part of Outworld. He's just a victim of Shao Kahn's treachery.

Nah, Jarek's just a copy of Kano, plain and simple. He's a mortal from Earthrealm, who decided to fight with the Earthrealm warriors instead of Shinnok. That would be an interesting plot-twist, but the guys at Midway would never do somehting like that.
