Hey guys what's up. I saw that awesome vid with all the strange cheats on MKII on mame. I was wondering which version of mame was used for that and what website did you get the cheat.dat from. Please help if anybody knows. thanks

I dont know where they got their cheat.dat but I would guess at least some of those were cheats that the vids author found. Finding cheats is really fun in Mame because it has a very useful Cheat system.

And as far as the Mame version, most will look fine, but I think Mame 64 is the best for MK games overall.

The one that works with 81 should work fine with 64?

Searching for cheats means searching the game's memory map for byte values at a specific point in time in the game, then comparing values at a later time to those originally discovered for changes / non-changes depending on what you're looking for (lifebar decrement, timer functions, character id, special move activation, ect). Unless you have a good grasp of how those functions in MAME work, it'll be even more confusing trying to use them.

I good example is finding where the combo meter is stored in memory which I just tried the other day and it worked nicely. I would get a 2 hit juggle and immediately pause the game, then search for cheat, and search memory for the value of 2.

Then I would unpause, do a 3 hit combo, go back, continue previous search, and search for 3.

Then Unpause and do another 2 hit combo, go back, continue previous search, for 2

ANd on and on. I needed to get a variety of numbers to find something close, and still there were 7 results. So, I went to the results list, and pressed "W" on each one to watch it, meanng to make the value of that memory location show up on the screen as I played, and figured out which one was actually the combo meter, and then I went back to that one in the list and pressed "A" to add it to the list of cheats. Then I went to Add or Edit Cheat, found it renamed it and set it to override that value in memory and keep it at zero.
