Mame Questions
Being somewhat let down with Midway Arcade Treasures II, I've been wanting to set up Mame on my computer for a while, never got around to it. You guys talk about Mame ALOT, so I thought I would ask here.
Anyway, info about my computer:
OS: Fedora Core 3 (Linux)
900mhz Amd Athlon
768MB Ram
Geforce FX 5200 (128MB Ram)
I've tried to do this before, but it ran very slowly. Now, I have 900mhz so I shouldn't have a problem.
Basically I want to know what Mame to download, and what video/sound settings to use in it for optimum performance. I am wanting to play UMK3 and MK2, I already have those downloaded. Please help!

well your graphics card and ram are way more than u really need but... the CPU is the only thing i slightly worry about.... cause i have a 1.2GHz athlon (266fsb) and overall besides some occasional sound issues MK2 and MK3/UMK3 pretty much run perfect or damn close to it on my pc.... but anyways....
for the MK games to run at there best on your pc i would use a OLDER version of mame ... cause from what people say they have a speed hack or something in MAME which makes MK series run at full speed unlike the newer MAME's which run the games all slow like... still playable but not nearly as good.
but anyways this version here... http://www.emulator-zone.com/download.php/emulators/arcade/mame/mame32_kaillera/mame32-067-414-ka09.exe ... should work fine for u for the most part ;) ... cause on my pc MK1 is pretty much flawless MK2 is pretty close to flawless and mk3/umk3 are still pretty good to... mainly just static sound here and there... mainly speaking UMK3 but the game as a whole is pretty damn good ;)

I am not familiar with many Linux releases of Mame+Kaillera. The kaillera server is available for Linux, but mame I have not seen. But, then again, I haven't looked for it much either.
And Like he said, 900mhz might not be enough for good MK play in Mame.
EDIT:
Actually I have seen this around a bunch, but still not with Kaillera.

I am not too familiar with Linux but have you ever used WINE? I believe Mame 32K 67 will run in WINE.
