MAME/UMK3, how do you unlock the 3 secret characters with cheat file?

the search system sucks on this forum..

can anyone help me how to unlock them using the cheats instead of UKK?

Have a blast. Just go to enable cheats and toggle them on.

I had the original mame cheat.dat file with UMK3 cheats in it, then I tried this one, and none of them work... I tried all the steps/reset etc

are they specific to a particular version or something?

enable hiddens from the cheat that shock told you then reset the game (F3) and you are done

What version of MAME are you using? The first one i ever downloaded was 0.98, and the inf time cheat and the secret character codes didn't work. Try downloading one of the older versions like .64 or .67 (I'd go with 0.64 from DTZ, its Kaillera enabled).

I'm not allowed to ask if I need a specific version of a rom?
I know where to get roms on my own..

I was using mame .97 and .107 (stupid ass numbering system) and they didn't work.. guess I"ll try an old one someday.

I deleted my nvram for umk3, and tried this and it worked exellently.
