The Down+Start on the portal to fight smoke does not work, it just simply pauses the game, same with Up+start for random select. And Ive tried UP+ everything and Down+everything already, I think the ED BOON team didn't think to fix it.
Has anyone else tried it?

this needs to be brought up in fight night to ed boon then, dont you think?

yeah this is a good topic to bring up. i think the games are great, but it is an annoyance for those without the benifits of not owning an actual mk 2 machine. i do, but i can see where you'all come from on that.

yea, im planning on just buying the mk1, mk2, umk3, and mk4 arcades and putting them in my 2nd living room, one in each corner.
What are the latest versions?
I know the revision 3 for mk4 is the latest one of it but what about the others, i kinda need to know what to look for.
Plus does umk3 have the mk3 cabnet but with a different top front piece?
B/c Im wanting to buy all originals,
thanks,

i own a mortal kombat 3 cabinet, and i have all 3 mk games from the 2d series. yes, umk3 is just a dedicated mk3 cabinet with an ultimate marquee. i have this very machine. i run mk1 2 and umk3 out of it. unfortunately my umk3 board crapped out, still works, but has weird graphics. the others work like a dream. for mk 1, version 3.0 or 5.0. fans prefer 3.0 cause it has a retro comic ad in it. and for mk2 version 3.1 is best, mk3 version 2.1, umk3 version 1.2, and mk4 is version 3. thats what you want, and if you get mk1, make sure it has a volume pot, cause alot of times people try and screw you out of that. i have been already, but i finally got one. trust me you need it. and all connecters from sound boards to main pcbs. mk4 and umk3 dont need sound boards as they are built into the main pcb. i change the marquee in my machine to match which game is on, check my pics in profile. pics of my machine is in there. hope that info helped.

Yes, that helps alot. Is there anything else different in mk1 3.0 and 5.0 besides the comic book add?
What about 4.0?
Which version has the johnny cage multi head fatality and the ermac glitch?
(also will that ermac or johnny cage glitch work on the MK1 arcade port that came with MKD?)
Also what version was it that had the mk2 babality fatality glitch? and will it work on the MAT2 mk2 port?
Thanks

Also a couple more questions, hope im not bugging,
I want to have an arcade set up to play my ps2 games in. Like MK Deception. I want the arcade to be the mk4 style, dont care about the paintings just the board pieces and buttons and stuff.
So my questions are:
Do they sell a mk style arcade kit?
Or can I hook up my ps2 to the mk4 arcade monitor and just use the mk4 arcade for my Mk Deception?
Of course i would need to do something with the controllers to.
perhaps just putting a kit together and using a tv for the monitor and buy the mk buttons and joy stick and make them work for the ps2 plug in.
Do you have any info? Im praying there is a web-site where someone has done this...hehe
thanks,
Amy

yes, in mk 2 version 2.1, you could do baby bashings, and other small things. mk 1 version 3.0 is basically the finished product. only difference between 3.0 4.0 and 5.0 is that with 4.0 all they did was switch the type of motherboard used for the rom chips. 4.0 came out glitchy, nothing good, and so 5.0 was relased. 5.0 is identical to 3.0 only it has no comic offer. a rare 3.1 turbo chipset based on 3.0, has things like sub zero can freeze then opponent floats to top of screen, reptile way easier to find, and mad juggle combos. very hard to get though. not sure on the three head fatality in mk1, but it's in mk2 and it can be done on mat2, its forward forward down up +down+lp+bl+lk hold it. three heads. check out the x arcade dual stick for a really good ps2 arcade stick. use it for your main control panel for your home arcade. get any cab like the mk ones, remove any control board it has, replace with the x arcade dual stick, then pull monitor, add some extra mounts, and throw an equal size tv monitor in there. or, you can get a vga adapter and convert your ps2 to accept the arcade monitor. best way to go. not too many glitches work for mk 2 version 3.1, its pretty solid, though there is still some in there. same with mk3. they have no arcade kit mk style, unless you can find a custom arcade builder, but then it ges nice and expensive. just convert a cabinet, so buy one you aint gonna care to much about, then fix it up. don't have to be an mk cab, just make it into one. i build my own cabs, thoug i own a dedicated mk3 cabinet, pic in profile, i use it to model my cabs off of.

try arcadecontrols.com that's a good site
but ED BOON's team didn't work on this game
just because it's Mortal Kombat related doesn't mean they work on it, remember there were 20 other games on there too.
Also the Smoke thing sucks but I don't think there was random select in the arcade version, I tried it in mame

Thanks much. That helped.
it doesn't have to be out of a true MK style arcade but needs to have the same look, if you know other arcades with the same style look please give me the names so I can keep searching them too on ebay. I need to find a good fixer upper,
Also I would like to reuse the mk sttyle buttons? is it possible at all? COuld I re-wire it to work? I think the X arcade looks weird.
thanks again for your help.
In do time I should have my MK Deception arcade or might be MK7 by the time i get this done. lol

Why bump an off-topic "Can't fight smoke"- "Where do I find an arcade kit"? I find it a bit confusing, don't you think?
I mean, I understood you asked about Smoke in this thread, but couldn't you post a seperate topic for finding arcade needs and not bump this thread to wait for an answer?

Converting systems over to your Mortal Kombat Kabinet is very simple and a pain in the butt at the same time.
Monitor:
Mortal Kombat 1-4 run on a 15khz monitor (I've never owned a zeus board so I'm not positive on 4) 15khz is standard resolution in not only the arcade industry, but consoles too run at 15khz as well.
There's 101 methods to get your console working on a Mortal Kombat monitor. One easy method is to simply get an s-video to jamma converter. Crappy quality though (both because you're using s-video, and a crap monitor no offense to all those lovely MK machines out there).
If you want quality look into Wells Gardners D9200 Universal 15/25/31khz monitor. and an xrgb2+ they're both pricey , but well worth it if you can afford it.
Controllers.
There's a few kits I've seen for consoles. One super easy method if you can afford it is to simply got a Massystems controller or an xarcade. they're all real arcade hardware so it's just a matter of hooking it up the same way they have it only using your MK buttons.
you can modify the real controllers to work with arcade switches.
Some cheap plastic arcade controllers for home consoles are basically the same thing as an arcade control panel only very cheaply made with plastic. You can use the PCB's from some of these and solder your buttons and grounds directly to the points they had their switches and grounds soldered.
if you do decide to put a PS2 into your cab, I suggest you also look into a HD, Network adapter, and one of the methods of booting games from the HD so you don't have to fumble with the dvdrom of your ps2 inside your arcade cabinet.but just a suggestion though:) gl hf
