What is really wrong with these games? I get reviews that say that the games are horrible, with bad controls and all that. Then I get a review or two that say "This is one of the greatest MK games ever." Which keeps my hopes up, I thought I would ask:
Are these games really horrible that I shouldn't buy them?
MK Mythologies: Sub-Zero, does it tell his story?
MK Special Forces, does it tell Jax's and/or Sonya Blades story(s)?
Should I buy this game to be a true collector of MK Games?
thx.

Special Forces' story is nearly non-existant. You can easily skip it.
Mythologies, however, I would seriously recommend. The story is actually tremendously in-depth, and critically important to every game since MK4, and the gameplay is nowhere near as bad as people say. The AI is difficult, and you have to press a button to change the direction you're facing because the controls are based on those of the fighting games, but it's actually fairly enjoyable once you get the hang of it.

I don't think Mythologies was a tremendously good game, but I did enjoy it. I would suggest it to MK fans, especially if they like storyline.
Actually my biggest problem with it was it was a bit easy and short. But overall, it was really cool.
I only played the PSX version though. I don't know if they managed to fit as much in the N64 version.

Mythologies has alot of down points, the button to switch directions, and some of the frustrating jumps really made me dislike it when it first came out.
However, I recently bought it on PSX, and its not so bad. The buttons are a little weird at first but once you get it down, its quite a fun game, or at least I think so. And as someone mentioned about, if you're really into the storyline, as I am, then you'll enjoy Mythologies and should pick it up.
As far as Special Forces... well, you do get some story to Jax, but it really doesn't come out giving more depth to the character. You run Kabal pre-resporator, which is kinda neat, but other than that, its pretty lame. The gameplay is pretty sorry too. I bought it just to be a completist with my MK collection, and my god... lol, you can tell the quality of what this game is going to be like by just watching the intro movie. It is the definition of lame.
But, the choice is all up to you. I greatly suggest playing both games if at all possible BEFORE buying, so you're not too disappointed if you can't get into them.
I believe I paid 5 for Special Forces, and 15 for Mythologies. If nothing else, you will have two more game to add to your MK collection, heh.

I agree with the posts here.
MK Mythologies : downside - too difficult sometimes (my wife has to play through some levels as I can't), but upside - decent game engine, nice graphics, great cutscenes, and the parts that aren't too difficult are a joy to play, with a great storyline that fits in beautifully with the MK universe.
MK Special Forces : downside - ugly graphics where all the rooms are empty and everything is the same color, lousy game engine, lame storyline that has nothing to do with MK, lame characters (Jax based on Hulk Hogan and a cheap Scorpion rip-off as an antagonist), and no Sonya. Upside - none, as it's pure garbage.
To summarize, MKM is worth getting if you're an MK fan. I just hope you don't find it too difficult. And please save your money and do not buy MKSF.

I have never even bothered with MKM:SF but MKM:SZ is a fun and very underated game. I never had a problem with the controls, it plays like MK3 except with adventure elements.
The story is in depth and the levels are challenging and rewarding.
If I were you I'd get MKM:SZ.
Still one of my all time fav games.

I liked Mythologies. My only gripe was that stupid switch direction button, and the Wind level.
I never played SF enough to like/dislike it. To me, it was just a normal (insert genre here) with a few MK cameos.
I say MKM:SZ. It has beautiful levels(I love the Water temple), awesome moves, and FMV.
