the ninjas r wot makes MK wot it is 2day i'll admit there r alot but ones that are not that gd have been left out eg. rain credit 2 midway 4 doing so.

it's not as if the ninjas r palette swaps nemore like they were up 2 MK Trilogy, and even then they mostly had unique special moves which was the only difference that could've bin made as every character in the classic games fought the same way, same kicks same uppercut etc.

I agree with you on Rain and somewhat Noob cause his move list was a bit over done.

As for Ermac, well he rules you along with Human Smoke and all the ninjas. Now that they are all unique looking in MKD and hopefully Noob will be better balanced the ninjas are even better imo.

Rain is pretty much the only one I didn't like. In the aracde intro he looked atleast a bit kooler since he was a dark purple which all changed though when he hit MKT. Add that to his move list and I just didn't care for him much.

Every ninja has some kind of neatness to them except Chameleon, if I had to rank them all though:

1. Smoke
2. Ermac
3. Sub-zero/Scorpion
4. Reptile
5. Rain
6. Noob Saibot
7. Chameleon

Naw, they don't have too many ninjas in MK. In fact, they don't have enough! Let's have Boon make ALL the characters ninjas have them all pallette swaps of each other, give them all similar moves, and change their names to sound completely rediculous and nonsensical!

All joking aside, Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Reptile (can't really call him a ninja, anymore), Noob Saibot, and Ermac all have important, if sometimes small, roles in the MK storyline, whereas Rain, Human Smoke, and Chameleon do not. I add Human Smoke in the mix because, technically, he's no more, having been transformed into a cyborg by the Lin Kuei. Bringing him back in MKT was just bad judgment. Rain was worthless (if cool looking), and Chameleon had no point whatsoever.

We all know the importance of Scorpion and Sub-Zero, so I won't go into detail about that. Noob Saibot's role has grown with the games, and has become a key player in certain critical events in the storyline (like his assassination of Prince Goro during DA). Ermac was an amalgam of souls controlled by Shao Khan, but he has a connection with DA character Kenshi that might have a severe impact on the game. Besides, he was the original telekinetic badass.

And, don't forget about the cyborgs. They all have their place, but I find Cyborg Smoke to be the most useless in the story. He's programmed to destroy Sub-Zero, learns that he still has his soul, switches sides, then drops off the face of the planet afterwards. At least Cyrax and Sektor acually *did* something during the events of MK4 and MK: DA. What's Smoke's excuse?

Overall, I don't think having ninjas in the game is all bad, just as long as they have a distinct contribution to the overall storyline and/or a significant impact on a key character's sub-story. I am strongly opposed to ninjas as filler, which, thank the Elders, Midway has gotten away from since MK4. Ninjas, good. Pointless ninjas, bad.

I guess there isnt a problem in having so many ninja's. Its all about what sells $$$$. I for one dont care for most of them, but then again....your not forced to pick them, so it doesnt really matter either way. Rain, Ermac and Human Smoke were pathetic. Mostly Human Smoke, what was the point of this character? An exact duplicate of scorpion, but he has smoke coming off of him. The thing is, there wasnt much thought that went into these extra ninja's IE completely original moves and animations for each one. Noob Saibot im hoping that he has a style all his own in MKD, same with smoke, he would have been kick ass if he didnt mimic scorpion in everyway possible. Some individuality can go along way.

PS. MK 2 reptile OWNZ j00, hell...even the UMK3 reptile was cool.

Smoke's plot was that once he discovered his soul again, he went into hiding. He basically felt like a freak, and went into exile to come to terms with his hideous new form. I think that's a better plot than Cyrax's turning good plot. Now he's a stupid little C-3P0 buddy character to Jax and crew.

Tremor was from Special Forces. Supposedly he was a Lin Kuei ninja who joined the Black Dragon.

I agree cyrax was ruined and he is a c-3po buddy of jax and sonya. All the cyber ninjas should be bad like sektor. The cyber ninjas were made to be deadly assasins. In mkd's story sektor should reprogram smoke to kill nightwolf and kabal. I hate those fuckers. Smoke should be programmed by sektor to serve him and his tekunin clan, and kill all of the worthless good guys.

well i'm going with the rumours about smoke not being a cyborg anymore myself, they might just be false rumours or they might be completely true but i know i'd rather have a non-cyborg smoke any day, he was one and the fastest characters in MK2 and got took down to the level of speed cyrax and sektor were at.

I thought Cyrax's new story direction was interesting, but I feel that it was ripped off from what Smoke's was going to be. Think about it: Smoke was the only cyberninja out of the three that kept his soul after his transformation. If anything, he should've gone through the process given Cyrax and join up with Special Forces (well, maybe not join up with them. He is still loyal to Sub-Zero, after all). When they gave that story element to glitchy Cyrax, they effectively killed off any chance of reviving Smoke for another game, storywise.

I dunno what these rumors about Smoke not being a cyborg anymore are all about, but it looks like Midway's trying to come up with an explination to why he's back which, from my perspective, will turn out to be pretty lame.

Guys, rumours are 60% of the time not true. It doesn't mean he's not going to come back as a cyborg. Yes, i agree they ruined chances for smoke by helping cyrax regain his humanity. That was supposed to be smoke.

I actually think there aren't enough ninjas. I would love for MK to come out with a game with just different ninjas and nothing else. I dunno, they are just my favorite characters. Palette swaps or not, I found each ninja to be unique and have great potential in their storylines.

I don't know why I see some people basing the Ninjas on their story when it's all about their moves mainly. Smoke is for the most part a Scorpion rip off but with that pop up combo he becomes one of the best characters and has many combos along with Ermac. I don't see how anyone can say Human Smoke or Ermac are bad based on story and looks alone. Hell Ermac should be liked alot since he is the fan created glitch character come true with great combos and one very kool telekentic slam.

To base it on the story alone is sad imo, since this is a fighting game and not some story based game. It's all about the moves, combos, and fatalities.
