I'm a huge fan of MK1 and MK4 but I will explain to you why:
MK1 is I think the most realistic MK game ever, the graphics were the best one , the fatalities were simple and easy to do, you could play that game against anyone it didn't asked for too many memorization. Small is beautiful and MK1 was really a tribute to that.
MK4: sure the gameplay was not that good for some people... BUT, the very cool FMV endings(in MK4 AND MKGOLD) really saved the game for me. The music and the overall atmosphere were all great. And I think they did a great job to incorporate a 2-D MK feeling into a 3-D game.
MK4 is very underrated.

Mk4 is a tough animal.
If you include it in the original MK's category, since it has 2D gameplay, it's not that good.. but, at least it has 2D gameplay and still FEELs like Mortal Kombat
the 3D (graphics) MKs, MKD and MKDA were shit.. so in that category, MK4 pwns both of those.

MK1 has the best graphics? Not at all. That would be MKT. And the game itself isn't the greatest either. But it's still good.
I also personally loved MK4. The graphics were bad, but everything else made up for it.

WTF?
Trilogy did not have the good of graphics. The arcades are always bettter. Also, MK4 and good graphics too, unless you play the N64 or something.

UMK3 is far and beyond the best MK game ever in terms of mechanics, gameplay, balance, etc. The extra crap in the games, the aesthetics, etc, are all up to opinion and this thread will go nowhere. This is the word of the Lord. This kind of thread has been made in one way or another many times, you know this Ras.

I don't deny the fact that in terms of gameplay, mechanics and balance UMK3 was the best game, IT IS the best game.
BUT few of the people I know actually play UMK3 and we always have huge fun with MK1 for some reason. MK1 never gets old for me, even if the gameplay is very simple and it is the oldest game of the serie.
MK4 was great for the overall atmosphere, endings etc. I also believe it is the most violent game in the serie.
MKDA was crap mostly because it didn't felt like a MK game at all and the only reason why MKD was decent was because of the online play. I had fun for a while with MKD, playing it reminded me the arcade days even if the game was broken.
MK2 was fun but I don't play it as much with my friends and brother
I didn't liked most of the characters in MK3 and most of the stages were too similar.
UMK3 was VERY interesting but it didn't have this ' let just play 'feeling that MK1 have and the FMV endings that MK4 have that I really like for some reason
But anyway, MK is the only game I play so I love almost every games. But MK1 and MK4 stands out for me for those reasons.

So basically what you're saying is, your first post should have been "I like to play MK1 and MK4 still."

Maybe MKDA didnt feel like a Mortal Kombat game.. but at some point they have to make a LOT of changes to REFRESH an already OVER DONE game, most people say they like the 2D Games better and I agree they are probably the best MK games.. but if Midway doesnt try to Change things in the MK world like making 3D games that some people wont feel like its the good old MK's then they will never move on. Its just like Resident Evil.. When RE4 came out some people thought it was the best RE others thought it was the worse because it wasnt like ALL the others. Problem is with keeping a game the way its always been is that only the DIE HARD fans will come back for it, they wont attract newer customers or fewer then they would with new mechanics, new gameplay. Sure its different, but to me its still very Mortal Kombat, you have the gore, the combos, the juggles, the characters, the fatalities, all that with better graphics. Its not as fast paced because it is 3D and lets face it for now the 2D versions go much faster but you have to give these 3D games a chance because sure they might not be the BEST for now but once they can get the game to move fluidly you wont be complaining at the great game in front of you. I personally think MK:DA is a great game because its a great step towards IMPROVEMENT. There is so much you can do in 2D but so much more you can do in 3D.

I think this thread was started with a good idea and a poor implementation. Ras, it sounds like you prefer the way the graphics looked in MK1. They were much more raw and unaltered compared to later games. They look less airbrushed and more like pictures of people. I can understand prefering that. I personally prefer the graphics of MK3, but that's just a difference in taste. Calling MK1's graphics the best without qualifying kind of made this a flamebait post.
And the same happened with MK4. You seem to really like the endings and violence of MK4, and that's cool. But it's not a fact that MK4 is the best 3D MK game. I don't think I could pick which is best. None had great gameplay, none have the craziest most sophisticated graphics, I think it ends up being completely personal preference.
It sounds like the real goal of this thread is for you to say that you prefer the graphics and gameplay of MK1 over other 2D MK games and you prefer the graphics and endings of MK4 over other 3D MK games.
