MK1 Reptile question

So, I pride myself in knowing alot of trivia knowledge about Mortal Kombat but something that eluded me for awhile is who or what exactly was Reptile in MK1? He had both Sub-Zero's and Scorpion's moves and could do both of their fatalities but there was never any back story to him as far as I could find. Did Ed Boon ever say any kind of lore about him at all?

He didn't have a story until MK2, when they gave him different moves and said he was from a race of lizard people and he was at MK1 to be Shang's secret bodyguard.

So the only known thing about him was that he was Shang Tsung's bodyguard? Still it would be pretty neat if they gave him a back story on how he was able to use both Scorp's and Sub's powers and how he lost it all during MK2.

Pretty sure we're just supposed to regard his MK1 Scorpion and Sub-Zero moves as non-canon.

Same as how Jade uses Kitana's fans in MK2 but once she got her own moves it's like the fans never existed and she doesn't use them in Shaolin Monks or MK9 even though those are retellings of MK2.

Yeah until MK2 he was literally just a fusion of Scorpion and Sub-Zero and nothing was known about him, it was stated in MK2 he was Shang Tsung's secret body guard/protector but in Shaolin Monks he actually denies this claim IIRC

(@MKmd13) Reptile was a mysterious spy in primary stages, and matured into a warrior raptor throughout many years. His ancient people existed as saurians and he apparently resided in zaterra now believed to be merged with the current outworld.
