Its graphics are pretty poor. Very low color. You'd probably be better off with the SNES version. Gameplay is pretty standard for a home port of MK2. It isn't much better or worse then the others.
Its a shame because the 32x was capable of doing much better quality then is present in 32x version of MK2, but 1) it looks like they built it off of the Sega Genesis version since it has the same look due to massive color removal and 2) if they used full color and the larger game sprites the cartridge would have been astronomically expensive. They could have made a fantastic 32X-CD version, but things were already too far gone.

It's worthless. It's barely better than the Genesis port. It plays like the Genesis version but is still missing tons of details. Kahn doesn't have all his taunts, bones still disapear, Cage's win pose is still cut, the ending pictures are still gone....
It's basically the Genesis version with redone colors, a few extra sounds, Goro's Lair, the opening bio pictures and a handful of other small details. The only thing it has over the SNES version is the pictures in the opening story.

No, its absolutely 100% heinous like the Genesis version. Again, it is bested by the SNES version.
I have it, and it is mega drive 100% in terms of gameplay.
ALSO it has the down LP, which was removed in the megadrive, meaning you can do the 5-hit corner juggles, with characters which you couldn't before, like with Liu Kang, and the female ninjas.
However it has both Friendship speeches, something the snes version doesn't have, but that is a minor thing, I say if u have a snes, get that version, but do urself a favour and get a PS2 for the MAT2 version, as thats the best ur're gonna get.

Well its obvious Sub_Zero2008 that the opinions you have heard so far about the 32X version of MK2 are from people who basically are fans of the Snes version of MK2(Which I never understand why
), how here is the take from a Genesis fan:
Now I owned the Genesis, Snes, and Sega 32X version of MK2, now the 32X version is not arcade perfect by any means, but IMO its way better the Genesis & Snes version of MK2, the 32X version could have been better, but I was more than impressed the little improvements it had(Shao Kahn announcing(but still missing his taunts), much better graphics, added more sound effects, and the Pit 2 Male/Female death scream, now the soundtrack is the same as the Genesis version, but I prefer the Genesis MK2 music over the Snes anyway so I that wasn;t a problem, the gameplay is very close to the Arcade version(and there is no denying that), and the character sprites look pretty good compared to the Snes version(which they look very choppy), and the game much better with the 6-buttion controller, now is it worth buying? now if you are a collector & are a Genesis fan, then yes it is, even with it faults(which it does have), its still a good MK2 port, I would suggest going on Ebay to find a copy for little or nothing, now for somewhat Arcade Perfect Of MK2, I suggest the X-Box version MAT2.

I am not a fan of the SNES port. I have MK II arcade so I've got no reason to hold a bias for one of the home versions. The 32X version is simply not that good. A genesis port + a few extras doesn't make for a worthwhile game. The crouching LP is the only real gameplay difference and the rest is stuff like the match up screens that are already on SNES.
If you're looking for a decent home version comparable to the arcade then it fails. None of the 16 bit ports look, play or sound like the arcade and with MAT2 out there really is no need to mess with any of them. As a collectors or novelty item it's not that interesting either since it's basically just a remix of MK II for Genesis. I could see liking it back in the day if you only had a Genesis but with superior versions readily available I don't see much of a point.

I own the genesis, 32x, and SNES version, and I think the 32x ver. is the best!

how rare is this game?

It is a fact that the SNES version is comparatively better than 32X.
The 32X version is essentially SNES Lite with better looking energy bars. The sounds, musics, graphics, frame counts, etc are all not as good as SNES, however 32X's potential was greater. The gameplay factor is something that is difficult to compare because neither game is even close to an arcade representation and they both have things wrong about them on both sides in different areas. The best you can call on that is a stale mate.
There still is the fact to consider, SNES came out with a lot of different upgrades and chips they added to games, making them more expensive but tricking the system into being better than it was. Had they released a $200 version of MKII with with all the possible upgrades they could, there's no telling how close to the arcade they could have gotten it, so the only way you can compare them is by what is there. Imagine the color, storage and speed increase mods they added, all given to MKII, MK3, or UMK3.

Yeah seriously. Imagine if they had used the hack used in Donkey Kong Country to get 4096 colors on the screen at one time? Max for SNES was supposed to be 256. Max for Genesis is 64. Max for 32X was 32K, unfortunately the version pumped out overnight of MK2 still had fewer colors on screen then SNES though.

I'm not sure, but it can't be too many copies out there, but If you could, play all the versions of MK2 that you can and see which one YOU like the best, because everyone has different opinions when it comes to the classics.

Can someone please post videos of this game.

Cool, thanks for posting the comparison videos. I love comparison vids and pics. I had forgotten 32X was even that bad. I remembered being let down but man, thats just like 10% better then Genesis. So sad considering the hardware itself was like literally 500 times better.
I had forgotten about the frames cut out of ending stances. Are all the frames that were cut for MK2 Genesis missing from 32X as well? I noticed Cage keeps his hands up. Does baraka stay bowed instead of crossing the blades in front of him still?
