MK2 Shadow priests in Kahns Arena

Has anyone noticed that there are shadow priests or portal guards in the balconies in the Kahn's Arena stage? It kind of looks like a gladiator arena, like the portal guards are more important than Kintaro and Kahn, just watching them fight in the pit. Brown robes are portal guards right?

Can't say for sure I've noticed them there, but you can spot them for sure in the MK3 Soul Chamber stage.

I wouldn't think that they are more important. Kahn is the Emperor of Outworld, therefore even Shadow Priests are under his rule. They are obviously in the favor of Kahn and do possess a lot of power and importance, but Shao Kahn is getting the front row seat. The priests are not a part of the tournament, but Kahn is.
