I remember reading here a while back that the reason all of the old characters weren't used in MKT was because the actors were no longer with Midway, and alot had filed a lawsuit against Midway for some lame reason. What I was thinking, wouldn't Midway have had the rights to use all the images captured, and for that matter the actors would have had to sign some sort of contract stating that Midway owns all images and this and that etc... Or was that what the lawsuit was about??

There might have been problems reusing the images from the previous games or something. The actors probably signed contracts for each game individually, so a new contract might then be needed. But, thats just one uninformed possibility.

I would have liked to have All the ninjas, but oh well, it wasn't meant to be.

Good question. I've wondered this myself.

MKT is not the only game to not use the image of an actor that had left Midway. Notice in MK3 in Liu Kang's arcade drop Daniel Pesina as Johnny Cage was removed from the side art of the machine. However Acclaim released MK II for Saturn after the lawsuit and MKDA shows pictures of the old actors in MK II so I don't know what the deal is. Maybe legally they can use their image in older stuff(like pics of MK II and MK II itself) but cannot use them in new games, even if it is the exact same sprite. Or maybe they could have if they wanted to and just didn't want to take the risk that they would cause trouble.

Or one of the guys in charge of putting extras in the Krypt went "Oh crap, I wasn't allowed to use that? But the game has shipped already! Oh well, let's hope Danny-boy wont see that."
