Could anybody tell me please, if the "warriors/defenders of the Earth" conception was really elaborated by Ed Boon&John Tobias already while making the 1st mk game? I have a sence, that it wasn't. There are no mentions about it in the game. But the main reason, why I think so is the titles of Raiden at the end, from where we find out, that he isn't a defender of the Earth, but just a brutal heathen god lacked of morality, who decided to participate in the tournament because of getting bored and destroyed the Earth at the end. Maybe it was made deliberately, but I personally don't think so. I wonder, what would you say?

The first MK1 was just fighters at a tournament. There were no "defenders of earth", no outworld, just people who have a different reason to be in the tournament. In MK2 they aren't necessarily defenders either, they're just the warriors who survived MK1. The only major character change is Raiden, who is nice enough to warn the fighters of what's to come. It's not until MK3 that we get chosen warriors, a truly noble Raiden, and an all out battle between Earthrealm and Outworld

Thanks a lot! I was right then. It's one more reason, why I love the original Mortal Kombat most of all. The game has a balance between reality and fantasy, which makes the atmosphere more real and the game more exciting.
