I am basing my opinions strictly on gameplay experience, not on storylines or anything like that...

Shao Khan over Onaga -- I thought Onaga is a weak boss. He has no intimidation factor. Shao Kahn (MK II) was original with his taunts. It's cool how you can fight normally in Kahn's arena, and then against him without being in the chair.. it set up something badass when playing him in the arcades.

Kintaro over Goro -- I do like both of them, but it seems like Goro (MK I) was more of a "trial & error" thing, since there was no plans to make MK II after the release of MK I. I feel that they wanted to make something much more intimidating with Kintaro in MK II. I love how the crowd cheers everytime he's kicking your ass and when he wins. Aside from this, Kintaro is such a badass name.

Kung Lao over Liu Kang -- Liu Kang, being the poster child of Mortal Kombat, can get a little annoying at times. He has one good fatality in MK II and the best friendship (MK II) ever, but the rest of the MK games have the same Kang moves. Kung Lao, on the other hand, has the coolest fatalities in MK II, very cool moves in both MK II & 3, and is pretty cool in MKDA. I'd take Kung Lao over Liu Kang any day. I feel like there is more skill involved when playing with Kung Lao in MK II and MK 3 than playing with Liu Kang.

Sub Zero over Scorpion -- I love both of them, but Sub Zero has better fatalities in MK 1 - UMK3, especially in MK I and MK II. Scorpion always has the same fatality (toasty), while the MK team likes to get creative with Sub Zero's fatalities. I do not like how Sub Zero looks in MK DA or MK D, though.

Smoke over Noob Saibot -- Although both of them were pretty much a bitch to beat in MK II, I like Smoke a little more because he was introduced as a playable character in MK 3, while we had to wait for Noob Saibot in UMK3. Not much else can be said about Noob Saibot because he is only playable in a couple of games, while Smoke is playable in many forms (human and robo). Smoke's fatalities were pretty weak though in the earlier Klassics, and they were even weaker for both of them as a tag team in MK D.

Shang Tsung over Quan Chi -- Quan Chi who? Quan Chi has always been a weak character in my mind. I didn't like him in MK 4, nor did I like him in MK DA. I hate him as a boss/sub boss because nothing separates him from any other regular selectable character. Shang Tsung, on the other hand, has his morphing powers in the earlier MKs ( MK 1 - UMK3) which puts him far above Quan Chi will ever be. He was a cool boss in MK I also.

1. Shao Khan would annihilate the Dragon loser. No contest.

2. Kintaro would kill Goro. Goro is so easy in arcade yet Kintaro is almost unbeatable.

3. Scorpion, Scorpion , Scorpion, and Sub-Zeros head on a pike.

4. Noob Saibot would kill Smoke.

5. Shang Tsung, after MK3 really sucks, (due to Tobais being gone) and Quan Chi would kill him, hell, he beat him at the beginning of MKD.
