Wassup yall im new! Im a hugggee fan of the MK series, and currently own all 3 systems (PS2, GC, Xbox). I am plannin to get MAT2 because i want the 1st 3 MK games (though i really want ultimate :(), and i already have MKDA. The only ones i need are MK Trilogy and MK4. I know that most likely, those 2 MK games will most likely appear on MAT3 but since i have all these games on the xbox, i just wanted to know if its worth buyin these games so i can play them on the PS2 or should i wait for a year and half until they come out on MAT3? Thanks In Advance.

I would say get them. MKT was pretty awesome. I really enjoyed it. MK4 was not that great but had its moments and went a different direction from the past MKs. But if they are for sure going to be in MAT3, then i would say wait for that to come out. But right now its unsure if they will be in MAT3. and WELCOME to mortal kombat online smile

If you can get Trilogy for 10 bucks, do so. But be warned. The loading times can be a bit nasty, and there's a bug which will not allow the characters' endings to be displayed on the PS2. The game will freeze, and you'll have to reset once you beat the game.

Don't get MK4, though. It was a pretty bad conversion. Wait for it, or go out, buy a Dreamcast and get Mortal Kombat Gold. That game was buggy as hell, but still very fun.

yeah i really hated that bug, i thought it was my PS2 at first. Then i tried it on My PS and it worked just fine. It really sucked how we couldnt see the endings and stuff on the PS2.

Hm..that Trilogy bug aint good news :-/
But since they are both cheap, ill get them anyways! I cant wait a year to play it on my xbox, so ill just spend about 10$ for each game and play it till and if it comes out on the Xbox.

Also, i would like to ask... why does everyone "dislike" or is "dissapointed" with MK4?? Was it that bad?? I played it once and used Tanya but didnt like her as a character so i really didnt get to experience it. Ive played Trilogy loads of times and loved it, but i played it on the 64 not the PS/Ps2.

MK4 is fun for a little while, but most of us dislike it for it's lack of depth. I'd prefer it over Trilogy though. I bought Trilogy for ten bucks and I'm still pissed off. The load times cripple the fun, it only boots up 3/4s of the time and it crashes a lot even on PSone.

Quirk, I'm guessing you bought the game around the time it first came out? If so, I think you've got Trilogy 1.0. If you didn't know, there's 2 versions. They put out 1.1 shortly afterwards to fix the bugs (they got some, but not all - Shang Tsung still glitches up in the second round if he wins the first while morphed). The game doesn't crash at all (in my experience), the music doesn't change when Kintaro or Goro hits someone with a fireball, Shao Kahn doesn't randomly start jumping when you taunt with him, etc. Any greatest hits version you buy is 1.1. For $10, It's very well worth it if you like MKT, and wish there were no bugs. The only downside is you can't listen to the tracks on a CD player like you can with 1.0.

So yeah, kombat, get the greatest hits version. Well worth it for $10. also, you'll find that the PS version's slightly better than the N64 (at least, I think so). Kintaro and Goro available, MKII versions of Kung Lao and Jax, MKI versions of Kano and Raiden, crisper graphics and sound, slightly bigger characters, and both sub-Zeroes available, not just one!

What you miss out on compared to the N64 version are: fatalities for Motaro and Shao Kahn, an extra line of ending treasures (although if you're playing on PS2, you can't get the first anyway), a version of Khameleon with a storyline, different chest codes, an extra stage or two, and some N64-exclusive Kombat Kodes. That's about it.

Trilogy 1.1? Mine isn't GH and it crashes ALL the time... maybe I should look into that. I'm a bit torn though... I have a PS version that crashes, a PC version that won't run on my WinXP machine (it worked briefly after I installed the patches listed here, but then it inexplicably wouldn't work again furious)... the thought of buying it for a THIRD time bugs me, but I'll see what I do.

The PC version is the best if you can run it; everything thet PS version has minus the load times.

It is a good thing I still own my Saturn. I have Ultimate MK3, MKII, and MK Trilogy, and they are great translations. MKII could have been a lot better, but MK Trilogy and Ulitmate MK3 are just as good as the Playstation versions. I'm in the process of builidng an arcade cabinet, or purchasing one to place Mortal Kombat Trilogy inside to have a stand up version of the game myself. I am also looking for Mortal Kombat Gold for the same process, but I still cannot find the non-glitchy version. I've looked everywhere, including on Ebay! It is a hard find now!

No, I got my copy back in September. Brand new at Best Buy, greatest hits edition, and still buggy as fuck. But I can listen to the CD audio on it just like the other version.

MKT for PSX is fantastic. We've used 3 different copies of it to play extensively and have never had any real problems. The bugs with running it on PS2 are kind of annoying but we have a PSone for it to run on now. Never encountered any of the problems running it on PSX that were mentioned, with any of the copies.

MK4, as someone said, just lacked depth for me. I got real tired of it real fast because it was just kind of the same thing over and over without any variation. I didn't care for that. I appreciate that it is a very fast 3D game because slow, labored movement has frequently been a problem with 3D games in my book. But, it just gets too boring.

Also, the Max Damage system always felt to me to be a slap in the face to MK fans. That was the design team accepting that they were not going to balance the game, they would just stick that cap in there. I know it can be disabled, but that doesn't automatically balance the game out.

They really needed to spend more time creating it. And then, when MKG came out, they didn't fix nearly enough of the problems. MKG was really also a rushed, incomplete game IMO.

MK4 for the PS is worth it just for the music and the video ending at the end, I don't have the game but it's because I don't really have the time to find a copy of it. If I find a good copy of it for 10$ I will buy it for sure.

And MKG was ALSO buggy as fuck. The music would change if you hit a low punch sometimes, randomly a polygon would get stretched all the way across the screen, or the sound would cut out completley. I later read that it was because I had a launch version of MKG before the bugs were all out.

My copy of of MK Gold has a yellow/gold disc label. I hear there's also a version with a red disc label. Which one is supposed to be the "fixed" version?

**pops open his Dreamcast**

It's the red-disc version. They're suppsoed to have a green sticker on the cover that says "Hot! New!" mine did, and I get little to no buginess. Hell, I heard that if you picked the Noob Saibot's reaper costume, the game would freeze. Doesn't happen for me. They did a great job of fixing things

But for anyone who hasn't played Gold, the additional characters are terribly overpowered, IMO. Sektor can fire as many homing missiles at any given time as he wants.

I didn't care for playing it but I really did like the music in MK4. They were some good tracks. The endings were a cool addition to. I'm an MK junky so that probably would be enough to make the game worth it, but I got the PC version anyway so that kinda takes care of it. (Plus you can edit it)

I really don't agree with the people who think MK4 was a bad game. I think it was one of the best Mortal Kombat games. For about the first 50 days that I had it I would come home and play it for about 2 hours(I know, it's pathetic)and I never got bored. I still play MK4, although I may only about once a month. I guess it just varies from person to person. I think you should buy it. smile

I have the launch version of MKG and it has tons of glitches. You hear sounds sometime after you select a tower. That dosen't bother me but the camera does.Sometimes if you do Sub-Zero's spine rip or Scorpion's toasty fatality the camera would get stuck behind a wall.Although a good game if you have someone to play with.I have MKT also but my disc is about to die.It has alot of scratches and skips but it still works.
