Thanks goes out to all those once again answering my feeble MK questions . . .>

So here's another one.

Is it ever explained as to why Reptile in MK1 suddenly went from having sub-zero's and scorpions powers and fatalities to going into MKII with little more than a force ball and some acid flinging abilities? It bugs me to this day I couldn't have the powers of both ninja's . . . never mind the fact that his speedey gonzales foot movement was missing as well.

Also, I keep hearing debate as to the fact that SUB-ZERO is an untraceable character. What I mean is this. EVERYBODY and their mother has different explanations. Some good some kind of questionable.

MY QUESTION IS THIS . . . WHICH SUB-ZERO IS THE YOUNGER BROTHER REVEALED IN MK2 (WHO WAS ASIAN LOOKIN IN THE END AND SUDDENLY TURNED OUT TO BE A WHITER GUY THAN MICHAEL JACKSON IN MK3) AND THE EVIL SUB-ZERO WHO SHOWED NO MERCY IN MK1? I HEAR ABOUT CANON AND NON-CANON ENDINGS BUT GET NO OFFICIAL UNCONFUSING ANSWER THAT OTHERS TRY TO CONTRIDICT. I ALWAYS APPRECIATE THE HELP BUT I NEED AN OFFICIAL WORD, JUDGEMENT, AND STANDING ON THIS . . .HELP!!!

Thanks much for any answers.

P.S. something from one of the creators would make me feel more better if at all possible.

On Reptile:
I don't know. Maybe they wanted moves that reflected his name. Like Sub-Zero's do.

On Sub-Zero:
The Sub-Zero from 2 on is the younger one. MK1 Sub-Zero, and (assuming Noob-Smoke's ending is partially canon)Noob Saibot are the older.
The reason he looked Asian in 2, then white in 3 is just Sub-Zero changing like every other character has.

Look at the characters from game to game, the same character will look completely different in the next game. Look at Reptile's transformation, or Raiden's or Sub-Zero's. Shaolin Monks is a retelling of 1&2, and the characters look new yet again!

Besides, it's a video game. It doesn't have to make sense. Or be properly balanced, or be glitch free, or be...

Reptile had Scorpion/Sub Zero's moves in MK1, simply because he was a secret fighter, added as an extra and not at that point developed into his own character. There was no story at that point for who he was. Same with Jade, Smoke and Noob in MK2, who all had other character's moves.

It's in later games, when they proved popular and were brought back that they were fleshed out, given new moves, and plots of their own.

There would be no point for him to still have both Scorpion and Sub-Zero's powers, because no one would ever use Scorpion or Sub-Zero, and that would be a crime.
