I've just been learning about this new GameTap thing. Basically it's a subscription service that lets you play a bunch of old games on demand. All the games have the official support of their parent companies and everything. As I understand, you download some sort of applet and that lets you stream the games. The current selection includes some PC titles as well as emulated console ROMs and arcade Roms.

Now I just heard an interview with the head of GameTap and he said that although everything is currently single player, the technology is already there to do multiplayer, and they are considering adding that functionality soon.

So imagine if GameTap starts the multiplayer thing, AND Midway licenses the Mortal Kombat ROMs. We'd have OFFICIAL online classic MK!!!! I know there's Kaillera now, but an officially-supported online MK would still be a dream come true.

Man this is actually a feasible possibility here. I hope someone in Midway has the same idea I do.

Ok, I don't anything about GameTap, but will there still be similar lag problems to that which affects kaillera? I don't mean cross-country lag (unavoidable), but like lag between East Coast cities, even with perfect conditions?

You also said 'subscription' which means it costs right? I doubt many ppl will go for that when kaillera is free...still though, interesting stuff.
