I enjoyed it and mastered Smoke and Cyrax. Only person I hated fighting most was Motaro since he can grab you from sweep distance before you run up to him. I found the Genesis version harder than the arcade however. Shao Kahn was a pushover though. Repeated nets before he gets up is so cheap.

mk2 is better in my opinion. mk3 didn't even have scorpion what was midway thinking?

Now, don't get me wrong, Scorpion is my facorite character. But I absolutely hate fanboys... For example, MK3 had no Scorpion, and Sub Zero lost his ninja costume. Now, anyone who'd bitch that there's no ninjas in the game and that it's not worth playing without the ninjas is a fanboy... And in that respect, way to show them.
I think MK3 was a great game because unlike UMK3, or MKT, MK3 possessed same gameplay, but it was more subtle... It wasn't as in your face as UMK3 or MKT. I still love them, but I'm glad that MK3 came into existence.

I was extremely disappointed, *
-the roster sucked ass
-no dark tone to the game
-MK3 sub-zero owned the game
-fatality's were horrible
-broke
-it felt very empty for a MK game to me

thats what I thought of it before I played UMK3, now I just don't care because UMK3 fixed most of those problems and MKDA was even better.

Anyway, yeah. I think MK3 is ok. It's just a bit more complicated for to do fatalitie since they are usually 5 buttons instead of the classic 3 or 4. Not to mention all the other "alities". IMO I found UMK3 to be a bit as hard as MK2.(Which made critics roam it). Atleast in UMK3,Scorpion isn't helpless. Usually when I fight Jade or Sub-zero is when I meet hell. But yeah, MK3 isn't bad. Pretty funny how the final boss isn't as hard as the sub-boss though.

I loved it, I disagree though about darkness.Every MK is dark, it's just a question of which is darker between all MK's.

MK 3 was great because it introduced the cyber ninjas, good storyline and much better gameplay then the previous two.

UMK3 was even better and the best MK game ever made if you ask me.

I remember being very excited when I first went to the arcade to play it. But sadly it seemed to lose popularity quick...as when the first month it was out in my area you had to wait in a crazy line to play then after that month I was the only one playing, but then UMK3 came late that year and gave it new life. Really, they shoulda waited and just released UMK3 as MK3, but I guess this way they made double the money. Anyway that was a great year for Mortal Kombat and a great year of my childhood: Shania was number one on the radio waves, the Mortal Kombat movie kicked off at the end of summer, MK3 came out quick for the home consoles, the power rangers got 2 new megazords, and Eric Nies was shirtless daily on MTV's The Grind. Life was good back then...ha! wink
I actually found Mortal Kombat 3 to be fun. I don't see why it caused such an uproar because Scorpion wasn't in it....to each their own, I suppose. Though UMK3 is a bit more fun, I still like Mortal Kombat 3. Then again, I like all of the fighting games.

MK3's tone was even darker than MKII, I think people don't even think about the ramifications of the storyline for MK3. It's a lot more indepth and serious than MKII, after by the time you get to MK3, MKII's storyline becomes a total joke.

In terms of gameplay, MK3 is leaps and bounds beyond MKII as well.

Far be it from me to question the mentality behind disliking a game just because it doesn't have one single character in it, or less emphasis on fatalities.

In any event, MK3 was a welcome departure from what was left behind in MKII and MK1, IMHO of course. I was there ready to play when MK3 came out and the same for UMK3.

The incomplete gameplay, that's all. Had MK3 come out exactly as UMK3 is, people's heads would have exploded. MK3 was necessary to flesh out gameplay problems because of the full release being treated like an early revision. It's a shame they ran into loading issues with the arcade because they could have kept all the extra stuff MK3 had that is still in the memory, but never shows up in UMK3.

All the MK3 character bios and artwork, the intro screens, ending pictures. All the stuff the drones complain about that is "gone" in UMK3. Also, the Bank doesn't show up either. Stuff like that.

MK3 was alright. I can't hate, but it was a too little plain for me. That's why midway develeper's decided to work their way foward. MK3 to UMK3, to finally my personal classic favorite........... MKTrilogy! I'm not saying that mk3 was a bad game, but it's a game that needed.......... more to it. Otherwise advanced versions, would have not been necessary to replace this classic.

i didn't like mk3,and in 1995 i was there to waiting for that game,but i was disappointed.
1)no Johnny Cage,Rayden,Scorpion,Baraka,Kitana and Mileena,in other words some of my favourite characters
2)for that game was dark, but some animality and most important friendship were horrible
3)a dark art style,but a not serious game,WTF!
4)horrible fatalities, beheaded enemies still standing, instead of falling on te ground, etc

I love MK3, i remember i got it for my birthday one year and me and my friend were playing it nonstop for hours. It introduced a bunch of new characters and the gameplay was better.

I think the next MK may take a page from MK3 seeing as Midway wants to introduce a bunch of new characters.

All superficial stuff. Weren't you happy when you were able to actually fight instead of shooting projectiles for 90 seconds?

superficial things?WTF?
are you kidding?
Half of the roster of mk2 is missing, and they are fan favourites, and you tell me this is a superficial thing?
The fatalities, animalities and friendship sucks and you tell me this is superficial thing?

and about the combo system, yes it should be a good thing in fact you don't use fireballs everytime, but it's also true that the sprites were recycled, during the combos fighters use the same sprites as normal attacks,so the combos were vey unrealistic.
And BTW i never see a ultimate mortal kombat 2!
this means that mk3 was a incomplete game, and wasn't that succesful in terms of arcade and console buyrates.
UMK3 is a great game for his speed gameplay and the add ons of few old characters and new ones, but the best third chapter of mortal kombat is trilogy.
ah,another thing

UMK3 pwns mk2 pwns mk3.
mk3 sucks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11
