What platform are you talking about for the game?

From what I've heard, for the Genesis, you can get Green Effects for Scorpion and Sub-Zero (thus looking like Reptile). While you fight Reptile, pick up controller two and press start. Now when the player select screen shows up, Sub-Zero and Scorpion are going to be green. You can also fight Reptile. To fight against Reptile, you must follow his clues: Fight in The Pit, when shadows fly across the moon, fight without pressing Block and beating your opponent with Double Flawless Victory and a Fatality.

Again, it differs.

But, I really need to know what platform to give you a good answer. Off the top of my head, I have never heard of this.

Yes, Reptile is actually in the game. He is just a green pallete swap of scorpion, and in some versions of the game, his name in the health bar is scorpion. I never got to unlock him in MK1, but i think the way to unlock him differs from version to version. So, if you are playing the game in a Genesis, it is probably different of unlocking him playing the game in MAME32. but i think there is a thread of someone that have unlocked him. search.

Yeah, I've managed to fight him but this rumor basically implied that you can unlock him as a playable character, you know the dragon look thingy on the character screen? Well, the box of that logo is replaced as Reptile, I remember I've seen the snapshot with Reptile on the character screen but I couldn't even tell if it was also true or not.

Hmm. I think that is, in fact, a rumor. They probably used a gameshark or something to that effect.

Yeah, it's always hard to tell if everything such as FAQs, guides, cheats, etc posted on gamewinners.com are true or not.

You cannot "unlock" Reptile. The concept of unlocking secret characters to play as was not invented until mk3 with Smoke. You can play against Reptile. Through rom hacking and game sharks you can play as glitched versions of Reptile on sega and mame, but it was never meant to happen and was not programmed into the game on any console. Anyone who says otherwise knows nothing or is lying to spread rumors.

The only way to play as Reptile is with a game genie.

You don't have acess to all his moves though. The CPU Reptile switches between Scorpion, and Sub-Zero(watch his stance when fighting him) in order to use their moves. You can't switch between them. Basically, you only play as a green Sub-Zero or Scorpion. IIRC, which one you are is random each round.
