Reikos eye markings

They are the exact same markings as Shang Tsung had in MK3. Is there a story behind it or what?

I think they are a product of the "It looks cool" method of design. Reiko seems kind of thrown in there so they probably just decided to go with something they already thought looked cool. Or maybe one day they just grabbed a pic of MK3 shang and stuck in on the model for testing and decided to keep that look.

I have never heard any story surrounding it.

Standard Outworld eye make-up? Maybe it's a mark for Kahn's army. Note that no characters had it in Mk 2, I think Mk3 went a little goth with the eye make-up and gelled hair.

I figured they did it in MK3 to cover the eyes a bit since, you know, Shang kinda changed his facial appearance a little wink

I mean...eh, I think Reiko and MK3 Shang Tsung wearing the makeup stuff is well something connected to Shao Kahn....

Or maybe I'll just go with dreemernj's answer with the "it looks cool" thing. It does look kinda snazzy though.........Well...at least for Reiko...tongue

i think they first thought of putting shang tsung in there but when they pulled him out they replaced him with Reiko, and they probably fiddled about with him , not being able to decide on what he looked like and they had a thought, they put Shang tsung's MK3 eye makeup on him and they thought it looked good on Reiko

Reiko replaced Noob Saibot, not Shang Tsung, so your theory has just gone out the window.

Sometimes we fans explore and give more depth to the story then the team actually does.

Those are just markings to look cool. It would be great if they decided to explain a bit more, but I honestly doubt it.

It was just to make him look cool.

I will give a better explanation of this:

I believe Shang Tsung had it in MK3 to show he was gettting a little older perhaps, But Reiko had a few different looks mixed in if you didn't notice. Ermac's red shoulder pads, Raiden's shiny eyes grin, and most of Shang's MK3 face only with a different color and the nixed the pony tail. He also had Shao Kahn's am and leg pads, and to top it off I bet it was fun trying on Kahn's helmet grin

I always thought Reiko's eye markings had something to do with him being a Brother of Shadow member. As for MK3 Shang Tsung, I got no clue.sleep
