How the hell can you fight Reptile in Revision 5.0 (T-Unit)

I did over 40 battles in 2 player mode and made the shadows go across the moon in the pit. Then I let 2nd player not continue so that I can fight computer on the pit. Low and behold, no shadows are going across.

Does Reptile have to appear and give clues first in order for the shadows to appear in 1 player mode on The Pit?
