Hi all,
Skulls were cracked, bones were broken but we're all still alive.
We'll zoom in on the relevant results of the three most important players :p.
Deadhead: 42 points* (39 game points, 0 flawless points, 3 impale points)
Deadhead vs MK Dan: 9 - 14
Deadhead vs VainQueur: 13 - 13
VainQueur: 48 points (46 game points, 1 flawless point, 1 impale point)
VainQueur vs Deadhead: 16 - 12
VainQueur vs MK Dan: 10 - 19
MK Dan: 65 points (62 game points, 2 flawless points, 1 impale point)
MK Dan vs VainQueur: 16 - 9
MK Dan vs Deadhead: 16 - 8
--
These results mean that MK Dan won the tournament :).
There was also the country competition. Since only two countries were actually represented (Belgium and Luxembourg), it looks a little odd. But nonetheless:
Belgium: 16 points (16 game points, 0 flawless points, 0 impale points)
Belgium vs Luxembourg: 1 - 21
Luxembourg: 36 points (35 game points, 1 flawless point, 0 impale point)
Luxembourg vs Belgium: 15 - 10
---
General conclusions:
° we agreed that European players are gravely underestimated and might be able to learn the Americans a trick or two ;).
° we agreed that the 1 - 21 was a total humiliation for Belgium
° the matches were, in general, extremely brutal and mostly very exciting as well
° MK Dan's Sub-Zero remained undefeated
° MK Dan and VainQueur got their only flawless point against each other
° Even though he always lost, Deadhead's Cyrax made an impression :)
° Hsu Hao is overpowered. But in Belgium he's great :). MK Dan hates Hsu Hao.
° A lot of progress has yet been made. The next (last DA?) tournament will probably be even harder and meaner.
° We all hope that next time, more people will be able to come.
* points were calculated as follows: one point per round won, one extra point per two impales in one fight and one extra point per flawless victory.

About Sub-Zereo: meh
, well, the point is that all of us knew the Scorpion tactics and used the same strategy. MK Dan's Sub-Zero strategies were much more perfected than ours. As such, the rest of us didn't really have an antidote. Also take into account that it was forbidden to pick the same char over and over, so not losing with a character was not THAT difficult (e.g. I never lost with Kung Lao but I only played one fight with him, while I played six times with Hsu Hao and lost only once).
We use the points systsem to better determine who's won.
e.g. one could lose 10 fights to 1 but still each time force a third round. That makes this player better than someone who loses 10 to 1 without losing a single round. Also, flawless victories or impaling twice should be rewarded because it's not easy to pull off.
And bragging... oh what the hell, why not? ;)
Cheers,
VQ

You'll boo even more because each player had to use 10 different characters...

Hey congrats to you guys that attended. I wish there was a way we can all be playing DA together. Did any of you guys video tape the matches? Some of us would love to watch em.

I'd like to add that I'm the King of the Impales (6 in total :p)
And, sadly, we weren't able to tape any of the matches. A shame really, there were some pretty tense moments.
Perhaps next time.

What was some sub stuff?

Sounds like a really cool event, I wish there were more video game tournaments around. My local 'arcade' has them, but it's basically a "SNK" and "SC2" tournament. I played good until some asian kid scraped my ass.

Hmm, hard to explain but I'm pretty sure that it's not stuff you, as known Sub player, will be unfamiliar with.

what i said is not called me starting anything.......its called me stating a fact. i'm sure that this MK dan guy is a good player and all but i can assure then sub-zero would not cut it over here. thats all i was saying. i mean, maybe he used sub cuz the tourney was easy for him.....maybe he used sub because his level was that much higher then everyone elses.....but the fact remains that he would do that sub-zero shit over here and succeed, he would need a better character to compete.

Too bad MKdan is nowhere near the jersey area.

Let me shed a little light on this.
Each player had a sheet with the other ppl's names on them, and each had to fight ten fights against these people. During these ten fights, said player could only pick the same fighter *once*.
To my best understanding, the American tourneys so far don't work this way. You can just pick Scorpion or Reptile all over again and prove nothing. As said before, I never lost with Kung Lao. Easy: I only played one fight with him. MK Dan never lost with Sub-Zero: he may have played five fights with him.
Losing to an extremely good Sub-Zero player doesn't tell anything about skill. If that were the case, why is it still possible to beat your Scorpion? Bottom line is: people aren't machines, and are prone to make mistakes.
Cheers,
VQ
