Scorpion and Sub-Zero are white now?
In the first MK game they were portrayed as Asian. Scorpion was a Japanese ninja before he died, and Sub-Zero was a Chinese member of the Lin Kuei. Well scorpion and Sub-Zero are now portrayed as white in the newer games and movies/TV. Is this because the majority of people who play MK are white males and the fans don' want their favorite characters (Sub-Zero and Scorpion) to be "Asian"? You can't change the race of Liu-Kang or Kung Lao because they don't wear a mask. And now Cyrax is of African descent?! Did they do that because of the lack of African American character in MK? I wish they would stop messing with the original storyline and keep in solid.

It was explained in MK:Mythologies that Sub-Zero is half-Chinese and half-American.
In his MK1 bio it said after Scorpion's death he was given new body, which judging from Scorpion's appearence, is not Asian.
Was this done because white fans don't like using Asian characters? No.
You may remember in the original games Scorpion and Sub-Zero were played by Daniel Pesina, then later John Turk. Neither are Asian.

I played the game, read the manual and have no idea where they stated something like that. Can you tell me where exactly it was explained?
As for the topic, MK creators just can't stick with one version of any particular character. In every game (not counting actor based chars, 'cause they looked the same by the force of events) allegedly the same characters looks different. And I don't mean their costumes of course. For instance, just take a look at Kung Lao from MKG, MKDA and MKSM. Three different people

Here.
Like I said before Scorpion WAS of Japanese descent, but now he is a "ghost." His skin color is tanned so that does give him some ethnicity. Sure Daniel Pesina was not Asian, but neither is John Turk who aslso played Sub and Shang Tsung in the later games. Are you trying to say Shang is not pottrayed as Asian? Also there is no official biography that states Sub being "half" asian, that was something made up by the fans. Sub is now officially a descendent of cryomancers(wrong spelling) from the Outworld. But even though these characters (Sub-Zero, Scorpion, Kitana, Shang-Tsung, Rayden, etc) are not from asia, they have Asian features in their face and clothes. By the way, why is Rayden white in the movies? Christopher Lambert did a great job though. But I still think they changed the "race" of the characters to please the majority of young white men.

So it wasn't explained in the game, but on the official MKM:SZ website. I wonder why they didn't put this one essential paragraph about his mother in the game's manual. Anyway, thx.

Yeah see, that info about his mother is from a official FAN site, not from the creator of MK. Shoot, I can make a official fan site about Scorpion and say he was born in Ireland and flew to Japan everyday to become a ninja. And on his part time job he was a circus clown too...Yeah I tell bad jokes sorry.

Actually there is such biography. Did you even check the link? Besides, this whole Cryomancer thing was made up by Vogel for MK:D and wasn't planned at the time of MKM:SZ. Moreover, both of these stories don't exclude each other. Sub-Zero's father whose own life in America was only a cover for his true identity and purpose could still be Cryomancer from Outworld, couldn't he?

All I can say is the story is all f***ed up. I hope MKA fixes and explains the story a little better. It seems like After MK2 everything went to hell. MKD is not a bad game because the story somewhat ties in the MKDA. As MKM:SZ, they are saying it's not canon storywise. Now they are saying MKSM is what happen after MK2, even with Quan Chi. Also they never explained Cyrax's story on how he went from robot to African. I always thoght of Cyrax as being Chinese because of the whole Lin Kuei thing. What next are they going to turn Sektor into a Mexican to please the hispanic MK players?
I agree. The story is flawed and I'm tired of this canon/non-canon stuff. I wish MKA retells or as you said fixes the story and any doubts will be dispelled.
BTW: I thought the site from the link was official. It has basically the same story as the game's manual, except discussed paragraph.

The website isn't a fansite. It was the official Mythologies site.
And I was simply pointing out that neither Scorpion nor Sub-Zero were ever played by Asian actors and the games' storyline offers an explanation, which is what I thought you were complaining about.
MK: Mythologies is definitely canon and less than half of MK:SM (if at all) is canon.

I own the game and manuel and it states nothing of the sort. How can you trust a site called:web.archive.org/web. All that site says it he was born in American..but how did he end up in China? Total BS of a story.

I trust it because I remember that site when Mythologies first came out it was the official wbesite.
The reason it's on "webarchives" now is because the actual site was taken down because Mythologies is about 8 years old now. The site was archived....hence "webarchives."

And the site goes on to explain, after his birth in America, his father tracked the family down and took the sons to China to be trained to be Lin Kuei.

I've always considered the game as canon. It was that one paragraph from the site, that was questionable, since it's the only place which states the info about his mother.

I have a PAL version booklet and there's a 5 pages long chapter named Mythologies, which states basically the same info as the mentioned site.

XD84 actually answered this for me already.
Yeah the website said something about Sub-zero's dad or mom being American. That still doesn't rule out that he has Chinese blood. What is an American? America is full of different ethnicities. If you look at his eyes in MKSM, he has black eye brows and chinky eyes. The only person who can set the story straight is Boon himself.
Race isn't a big part of MK unless your reffering races to what REALM they came from. You seem a little bit too concerned this. I doubt that the midway team would think more or less people would play the game depending on what the characters races are.

I guess Sal Diveta (wrong spelling I know) is a Native American! After all he played Night Wolf right?

Buddy, what point are you trying to make?
You first said "Scorpion and Sub-Zero are white now, that doesn't make sense."
I said "They were never played by Asians, and the game storyline explains why, so it's not a big deal."
Now you're bringing up other characters. I'm not talking about Nightwolf or Raiden or Shang Tsung. Complaining that Nightwolf is supposed to be Native American but wasn't played by a Native American is a valid point. But I'm not talking about Nightwolf./
You asked why Scorpion and Sub-Zero look white and not Asian. I told you the real-life reason and the game storyline reason.
So what point are you trying to prove?

I dunno man. The original Sub was asian now he's a black guy called Noob. I think the creators are racist or something. J/K, I'm just bored trying to make some topics. Thinking about getting MK4 on PS. Should I buy it?

Since the issue's been resolved, I see no further need for this topic to remain open, especially if you're trying to make other topics in this thread.
