Everybody knows about Reptile, Ermac, Smoke, etc, but looking around on the internet, I found references to rumored MK 1 and 2 characters that I've never even heard of before.
Can anyone shed any light on who these guys were supposed to be? Are there fake pictures, stores and such behind them?
Belokk
Hornbuckle
Nimbus
Goldenrod
Red Robin
Scarlet
Torch
Cloak
Thanks!

Belokk was planned for MK4, but since Midway didn't make him (or something) they scrapped him. I hear he's playable in MKG. he was a big red demon dude in metal underwear.
Hornbuckle was the green Lui Kang in the pit 2 background in MK2. Jade mentions him when she pops out from behind a tree on Sega I think. HORNBUCKLE WHO? I'm pretty sure the fans named him. he was briefly mentioned in Blaze's bio as a dragon king worshipper who attacked and enslaved him.
Nimbus Terrafaux was planned for MK1 as "Stryker". they later replaced him with Sonya. they tried to put him in MK2, but changed his name to Jax. finally, Stryker made it to MK3, but everyone hated him... because they are assholes. Nimbus was first seen in a magazine with pictures of him backflip-kicking someone's head off and his test your might. if I told you that I have seen and played as him multiple times, I would be mercilessly flamed, so lets just say he never existed and was just a ploy to get black people attracted to video games.
Scarlet was a rare, Ermac-like glitch in MK2 where Kitana would fight with a red costume.
Torch was the flaming dude in the background of the pit 2. he, also, was named by fans.his true name, revealed in MKDA, is Blaze. in MK2 he was on a mission when he was attacked by holy men (Hornbuckle and lookalikes probably). they enslaved him and made him guard the dragon egg in MKDA. Cyrax kicked his ass for Nitara. thats the last we've heard of Mr.Toasty
I've never heard of Goldenrod or Red Robin, but I'm sure they're pallete glitches as well.
as for Cloak, he is probably the result of a fan hoping a shadow priest was playable.

Thanks, you guys.
The only reference to "Goldenrod" I can find is on a website listing Game Genie codes for the SNES version of MK1. They all seem to ave this code:
"66B8-14DD
Put P1 on Rayden but don't push anything, then put P2 on
Rayden, then hit right on controller2 to see Goldenrod, a
hidden Kharacter from MK1!!!!"
Unfortunately,. I don't have an SNES, SNES MK1 or a Game Genie, so I'm out of luck as for testing it.

Also, are you really serious about this?

You're wrong about Nimbus Terrafaux, Kano_rulz. He was never a planned character for MK. We don't know what the planned MK1 "Kurtis Stryker" looked like, other than that he was military. This character could have become Jax in MK2, but it's never been confirmed for sure.
Nimbus Terrafaux was, like the Street Fighter 2 "Sheng Long" hoax created as a joke by a gaming magazine. I think it was in response to someone complaining about the lack of black fighters in MK. getting their heads torn off in the name of equality or something. The last name kinda gives away his the fact he's not real. "Faux" means false in French.

"Kochal" is in MKD Konquest supposedly some three headed demon thingy in the Netherrealm. It's hinted at in a pretty tough mission where you fight the 3 Black Dragon members (Kabal, Kira, Ken... uh, Kobra), each one under different conditions.
Sadly, completing this difficult task does not unlock a three headed demon character, or any thing else remotely worth having. You just get a load of Koins (Onyx if I remember right) and a portal back to the Netherrealm enterance. I nearly kicked my PS2 after finding all that was a waste of time and effort.

To me, that prize is worth it. Onyx coins are pretty hard to get in Konquest mode. I think that it was a great way to get onyx coins.
Kabal, was the easiest one to beat...
"Defeat Kabal in darkness....."
All that you do to defeat him is lay some good comboes on him and then while it is dark duck and block so he won't harm you. Then do this over and over again until you beat him.
Kira, was the second hardest to beat.
"Defeat Kira, so you may awaken Kochal."
You bleed to death in this match. First off, remeber some ultimate combos and then repeat them. Then make sure that once you are done with one, to duck and block so that your life isn't damaged any more then it is. Do this until you beat her.
Kobra was the hardest to beat.
"Kill the Kobra and awaken Kochal."
If he hits you three times, then you loose, so keep on facing him until you are Shujinko, or Liu Kang so that you can do bicycle kick one him many times. Always block once you are done with a move, then while he is hitting you preform a combo or special move on him.
There you have it. This is my stratagy to defeat the. Hope it helps.

Thanks, you guys. I feel I have really good answers on all of these guys except the mysterious Goldenrod.
Did I miss any rumored fighters, by any chance? I love collecting gaming folklore like this. It really takes me back to my high school days when there was a whole mystery cult built up around hidden fighting game characters. :)

Personally, I had a much tougher time with Kira than Kobra in the Kochal challenge. But it could be down to the fact I got characters I suck with for a while at first.
Since you can get Onyx koins in chess and puzzle modes, I really had no need for this challenge. The reward should have been something far better, like a new character or something to make it worthwhile.

And Pink is a really dirty name for a female ninja, for obvious reasons. I wonder if it's intentional or if it was just some clueless kid?

Don't forget the keebler elves also. I believe they appeared as often as Nimbus or Scarlet did.

well since he ended up as Jax, its reasonable to assume he was black. the Nimbus in the magazine was not the same as the Nimbus in the glitch. The Nimbus in the magazine was actually, as you said, a joke. some kids accidentally found the early gitched Stryker in the earliest version of the arcade. they assumed that this character was the "Nimbus Terrafaux" from the magazine because he was black. I asked them how they got him and they said something about a blood code, I tried to get him a couple months later, after the sega version came out. I tried the sega blood code on the arcade, just like they said. it did't work, so I jiggled around with the buttons and all the sudden my character froze. two seconds later "Nimbus" appeared in front of my character. I always used to OWN everyone with him until that arcade sold the machine. I forgot that it wasn't the blood code until just a few weeks ago, when I found the earliest cabinet of MK1 in an old arcade. so if you ever find the first version of MK1 lying around, do not pick Sonya, and just before it says "fight!" mess with the buttons like a madman. the screen will freeze for two seconds and "Nimbus" will appear. your old character's fighting stance sprite will remain there until the end of the round, it says Scorpion in his lifebar, when you walk forwards, he uses the backward walking sprites, when you roundhouse he uses leg sweep sprites, his pit fatality doesn't work, his ending has no text or pictures, and I haven't figured out his fatality if he has one. he has a flat-top hair do, no shirt, and army camo pants. he can shoot blue fireballs and do Lui's flying kick, exept he punches instead. You're wrong about Nimbus Terrafaux, Kano_rulz. So I have access to version 1.0 of MK1 and mangling buttons before a round doesn't do anything. Can you be more specific with what you did since it sounds like you played as "nimbus" a lot?

I don't know if I quite believe this...
Aren't all the various versions of the MK1 arcade ROM available online? Wouldn't someone have looked there by now and see these references to "Nimbus" and such in the text, as well as art and files pertaining to this character? I can't help but believe from some of the other threads in this forum that people have gone over the MK1 ROMs very throughly at this point looking for Ermac and such. I can't imagine they could miss all that.
Plus, MK1 had severe memory limitations, so much so that they had to cut the fatalities for Shang and Goro. Would they really leave all the Nimbus files in rather than deleting them to make room for other things?
Don't feel too bad, though. Kano is my favorite, too. I even made this site about him. I really need to update it!

I've never seen any indication that the military character had made it past early concept stages, let alone the actual filming process. Considering how easy it is to access early MK1 revisions and how many people have searched every bit of MK1 looking for Ermac I'm wondering how it's possible this hasn't been uncovered.

I start on the same frame the "fight!" text appears. I usually do alot of button holding and joystick jiggling. it doesn't always work, so it has to be a specific sequence. if it works, PM meSo I have access to version 1.0 of MK1 and mangling buttons before a round doesn't do anything.
